McClain had Crohn's Disease- Could hurt stock

Rolando McClain- ILB from Bama just came public with his illness.  He was forced to leave his Pro Day early due to sickness.  This could potentially harm his stock with the top 15 teams.  Although it might be a risk, stars like David Garrard have not been slowed down with the illness.  I would love to see this instinctive mad man in B and G.  As productive as he's been, why wouldn't we want him?

I’m not too familiar w/ that. It appears not to have affected his college production much. (The tape don’t lie!) But since it forced him to miss some of Pro Day, it could be a major concern, with regard to future Game Days! … With this news, it’s more likely now The Steelers will have an opportunity to make those determinations… as they did with Heath Miller.

I have no idea what this Crohn’s Disease is

I would have to Google it

Crohns Disease is completely treatable and wont cause a problem if monitored properly. He will suffer in his personal life, but with proper medication and fluids, he will be fine during games and practices. If teams look at him differently because of this, shame on them.

For those who dont know, Crohns is a very severe and chronic version of IBS affecting your ability to process nutrients and sometimes causing hospitalization. It mainly causes weight loss and abdominal pain. He will be fine under proper doctor care (which he will get with his 1st round salary and Steelers’ medical staff). McClain is a baller, get him!

Ok I just Googled Crohns Disease

Tell him to eat raw garlic, vinegar and honey. Not all together, but all on an empty stomach

Tell the man to eat some raw garlic, on an empty stomach

http://www.herbalremediesinfo.com/crohns-disease-overview.html

Alternative and herbal remedy specialists feel you should treat for a candida yeast or fungal infections instead. Using simple inexpensive, gentle herbs such as garlic can kill the candida and fungus overgrowth in the digestive tract. Garlic will also treat the common infections that crop up as side effects of Crohn’s disease too.

This isn't good for McClain

I didn’t feel as if he was as good as advertised before, and now I feel even less inclined to draft him.

I'm still big on Jamar Cheney being a sleeper!

I’m not overly impressed altogether with McClain, but I wouldn’t pass him at 18, UNLESS, a possible franchise LT slipped in the 1st to our reach. I just believe we can get great value from a D.Butler, S.Lee, J.Cheney, or Kion Wilson later. JMO

I don't know...

.
….if Chaney has the instincts. But he is smokin’ fast. I just really like what he could do in coverage.

In terms of a guy who has good instincts, a nasty attitude, and tremendous speed, I like that crazy Sean Weatherspoon. He ran a 4.52 at his pro day. He’s smart enough to move inside. I don’t know if it matters, but he benches way more than either McClain or Chaney. He has a vertical of 40 inches. And we wouldn’t have to trade up for him. I think he could be the guy….

But no one else does….

I do.

Weatherspoon has the frame to put on more weight, if necessary, and not lose that much speed.

McClain is already very big and can’t put on too much more, or he’ll lose a lot of that speed. He already isn’t very quick because of his size and I think he’s already peaked in terms of getting better.

Does McClain = Boz?

I may be old but I... oh d*mn, I forgot what I was going to say.

Maybe

Many players have health issues and having this one definately sucks. But i think if anything it will just be a bargaining chip for whatever team drafts him. I mean look at Clark, he has Sickle Cell, and a bad case at that, if we play in Denver, he’s out. Steelers re-signed him to a pretty good deal. He is also a proven ball hawk when he’s around his royal Hair-Ness though.

McClains stock may fall because of Crohn's...."

He can fall right to 18 & that would be just fine with me! Know a guy with that, & this guy has never missed a day’s work since I hired him 19 yrs.,(commercial construction, rain/sleet/snow/or sun!), ago! He’s in much better shape than many on the job by far!

It would depend on how severe the case

It can be a nasty disease requiring numerous surgeries.

This

I had a co-worker who also had Crohn’s. She was in discomfort a lot and eventually had to have a large portion of her colon surgically removed. There was a strong possibility of more surgery in the future. This can be a very debilitating disease.

Pearl Jam's lead guitarist Mike McCready

has it too. I have seen them 8 times and he’s one guitar-playing crazy man. I would think that life on the road while partying and playing would be pretty rough on someone with that shit. I would have to say that if I was playing GM and McClain fell to me at 18 would pull the trigger and take my chances.

Remember Rolf Benirschke?

Great SD kicker, had Crohn’s disease and missed a season and part of another (of course, he developed ulcerative colitis after he was drafted and had a couple seasons under his belt). He carved out an impressive career – but again, he was a kicker, not an ILB.

My heros have always been Steelers...

as someone who had (actually still have there really is no cure) i have no clue as to how he plays with it. there are degrees of sorts of crohns and i expect hes case is mild for him to play. so many problems come with crohns that can effect his play including anemia from loss of blood and dehydration (what i suffered with from going to the bathroom so much.

the teams really should do their homework on him and know how severe a case he has and what meds hes taking for it. if hes taking prednisone that could effect his weight and ability to recovery from injuries. if hes just doing out patient remicade treaments and taking Sulfasalazine a bunch a day i wouldn’t be troubled at all.
