If the Steelers keep signing these OL bodies
chances are slim they go after any (read Iupati) in the 1st. Methinks chances are getting stronger and stronger that it will be NT of LB. DEFENSE DEFENSE
The only managing Ben does is he manages to WIN games
or RB
rigth Johnny?

+1 on NT or LB
Or….QB?
Imagine having Him behind center….
With the 18th pick of the 2010 NFL Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select Florida QB Tim Tebow. (not a RB!)
You're safe dude
Clearly we need youth on D before anything happens on O. IMWO NT and ILB/OLB are near guaranties in rds #1 and #2. I can see perhaps OL in #2 but the activity over the past couple of day leads me to believe they are pretty happy with the guys starting up front and simply want to strengthen the depth with position flexible types. Further, it would not surprise me in the least if they address the OL, that C is the first position they address in the draft. Let’s face it, Hartwig is so-so at best and Fraley isn’t a long term solution if he is signed. To me THAT is the most glaring problem along the OL.

I’d say that. The flexibility thing is also key. If Fraley can come in and play 3rd TE and Johnson can shift into the 2nd spot, we can jettison Spaeth and use his spot to throw another DB in the mix, or something…
Would love to see Spaeth jettisoned
During blocking drills at training camp last year, Spaeth was such a wuss on the sled but, when Johnson came in and nailed that thing, people who weren’t even watching the drill turned their heads to see WTF was going on. Johnson is a beast. I am excited to see what he can do this year with one full year under his belt. Would be a nice late round bonus if he continues to improve.

still
I’d still like a true fullback. I’d like to see Johnson in the 2TE set and see Carey Davis replaced with someone who can block, run and catch.
I can dig that

Release Spaeth
I’d love to see them pry Owen Schmitt from the Seahawks to line up at FB:)

Love Schmitt, born to be a Steeler.

I don't understand why the heck
he wouldn’t just stay in San Diego then. I mean, both teams are Super Bowl contenders, no? Personally, I’d rather take my chances with the young QB that with and aging one who may or may not even play this year. What happens if in fact Favre does decide to retire? Who is their QB? Jackson? If Favre retires, they are no longer a SB contender and LT is stuck as a 3rd down back in a freezing cold climate.

I believe
There was a lot of bad blood and other stuff behind the scenes in the LR that LT did not like. Also, I am not really sure that SD wanted him back.

If Arizona actually signed Foote and Porter....
They’d have three fourths of our starting LB core from 2005. Haggans, Porter and Foote. Their only other LB, Gerald Hayes, played his college ball at Pitt, if that means anything.
It means they are five years behind the curve.

Jets have the line
and they like to run a lot. I think he is past it but who knows. Maybe he will have decent year as short yardage and backup.

Apologies if this was mentioned in another FA thread...
The Redskins signed Ma’ake Kemoeatu (Chris K’s brother). Adding another 350 lbs.’er to their interior line. I kind of wanted us to grab him and provide a little NT depth, if his demeanor is like his brothers, it would have been fun to see practices too.

RIP Merlin
I’ll never forget the lifelong joke between me a lifelong buddy and my brother. We were watching the Steelers destroy NYJ with Merlin announcing. The game, long out of hand was getting boring to all those outside Steelers Nation. All the while Olsen tried to maintain viewers talking about all the positives of the Jets. How their D was up and coming etc. The dialog continually went something like “and Bradshaw throws to Swann as the Steelers take a 38-0 lead…but I like the Jets effort!” We all laughed about the line “I like the Jets” for years. Still do during any boring blowout. RIP Merlin Olsen. Helluva lineman.

Rumor
Darren Sharper trying to drum up intrest from the Jets?
Bucs interested in DB Brodney Pool
"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." - Winston Churchill
I like Pool...
But I also liked Sean Jones when they drafted him too.
Is it possible as fans we over-estimated Sharper’s market? I know about the knee injury/ surgery which didn’t help. But realisticly, he was signed to a veteran minimum contract late in free agency last year (if I remember correctly). Is it possible his great season is being seen as more of Sharper capitalizing on oppurtunities and less of him being a great ball hawk (he’s a good safety, but was never much of a hitter/ tackler)?
