Terrence Cody shapes up

Big Bodies

Star-divide

hey...Mt Cody has dropped a whopping 30-something pounds since the Senior Bowl, after dropping 20-odd pounds for the Combine. He looked good at his pro day workout. Is he 1st round material?

I think at 330 - 340 lbs he would be very effective clogging that important middle and worth a late 1st pick. He can spell Casey and Hoke and be ready to start in a year. He can come in on the goal-line either side of the ball.

Thoughts?

I Watched Cody On NFLN At Combine

and he still looked fat and blubbery. He moved well. I think the Steelers should take the S that will be there at 18. Need to upgrade secondary immediately. We can probably get a NT on day 2.

Why do we need to draft a NT

When we are already two deep at the position? It’s not like Hoke sucks. And we all know how the staff loves veteran backups in place of younger guys.

Draft a NT next year to be Casey’s backup/eventual successor. I believe Hoke’s contract might be up after next season.

We can’t carry three NTs on gameday and it would be foolish to draft one and not dress him on gameday. It’s a waste of a 1st or a 2nd rounder. We can use those picks to make our secondary better or improve the o-line.

Both are over 30

and wouldn’t the ST be scary with a NT running down the field?

I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

also agree

wait until next year to draft a replacement. hoke still has a good year backing up left in him and hampton has at least 2 years of starting left in him. let hoke go after this season then draft the replacement

Final proof

we draft for the future. And Hoke or Hampton ain’t it

We extended him so we can win right now

We’ll draft the new NT so we can win in the future.

And how will he fit on the depth chart?

Like I said it’s foolish to spend a 1st or 2nd rounder on a guy who’s not even going to dress his first year.

We’re resigning a bunch of old players, so that win for the future thing doesn’t really add up.

if hes available

and Earl Thomas, Joe Hayden, and Eric Berry are all off the board, with no chance to trade up to get either one of them, then i say take him.

Also agree

Cody will put the weight back on as soon as he knows what his payday will be looking like, plus the FO has already seen the weight issue with him prior to this latest buzz about him dropping those lbs. Personally, I dont think I would bite simply because all you ever hear about him is the weight issue, isnt there ANYTHING else that he did at the collegiate level worth talking about?? Pardon the rant. Long story short, Casey has at least two years starting, as was mentioned, keep Hoke backing up for at least one more year, and then draft NT next draft (CB, OL, LB this draft)

Pass

Don’t take Cody at all. History is full of fat guys who are out of shape after they are paid. My guess is he drops out of first round, but I still say pass on him.
If Hayden is there, definitely take him. Maybe the safety Earl Thomas, but I think he will be gone. Otherwise Iupati to play guard. Then trade up in round two to get Pouncey.
O line, O line, O line. That is what I care about.
Oh, I also like the corner from Boise State if he makes it to us in round 2. (and Pouncey is gone).

no, no, no,!

Defense! Defense! Defense! Draft NT, OR LINEBACKERS, OR CORNERS with 1st pick!

yes yes yes

Best available with 1st pick!

No!

We drafted two d lineman, and two dbs last year. We can draft more dbs and d linemen this year, but our o line sucks. I know our defense cost us last year, but it can improve with health to troy, no tyrone carter, and a little development from our young dbs.
We need to protect the qb better, and run the ball better IMO
