New to board
Hello everyone I've been a surfer here for a while but decided to sign up. My first question is I know we need to bring in another backup qb. So would giving Cris Simms a look be better than bringing Batch back? Or possibly taking one later in the draft be better? Iwas just thinking with a young D. Dixon it might be better to add some experiance. There is not a whole lot to choose from so I thought he was about the best available.

My first question is I know we need to bring in another backup qb.
That is not a question. thats an incorrect conjecture.
One would almost call that trolling.
why?
because we have big ben
charlie batch
dennis dixon
antwaan randle el
and hines ward
all five were full time quarterbacks in college. three of the five are currently quarterbacks.
you want QB number six on the team?
baloney. you are a troll.

you are not very intelligent, as you've proven a billion times
Charlie Batch is NOT on the roster as of now. He’s a free agent. And if you think the team is interested in having Ward or ARE play any quarterback outside of a gadget play, then you are crazy. The team very much will be interested in shoring up the #3 QB situation, whether that’s bringing back Batch or someone else.

If the Steelers don’t resign Chuck for one more year, I assume they draft a prospect QB late, late in the draft for #3.

I can't help but wonder about Ben's situation
They have to get that cleared up first. If it’s the worst, we need another #1 right away. And the best one available now would be Mcnabb.
let DD take over
if the worst should happen. i’d rather rally behind Dixon than bring in someone else

Dennis Dixon is in his thrid year
He’s not all that young anymore. He also proved that he can pick up an NFL gameplan and play on short notice. I think he’ll do fine.

I think Simms deserves a look see...
But to be honest, him being away from football action for as long as he has, he may not be up to the task. He looked awful last year for Denver in the short time he had a chance to play, but that could be rust. I’d definitely work him out just to see what he’s got left in the tank.
I think there are some other veteran options out there I’d look at before Simms. Leftwich, Culpepper, I like Josh McCown, maybe even Brian St. Pierre coming back.

By all reports
Batch wants to come back, and the Steelers say they want to bring him back. But I doubt he’s going anywhere else, so there’s no rush to sign him. I expect that, barring something crazy, we’ll sign Batch to a one year contract sometime after the draft. They won’t bring in a different veteran as the third QB unless Batch wants to retire…it wouldn’t make sense because it would take practice time away from Dixon trying to get them acclimated to our system.
FYI I have no problem IF THEY DONT bring batch back in drafting a QB in the 6th or 7th round.
But thats a mighty big IF.
and randle El is a better QB than chris simms. just look at his completion percentage and percentage of passes to TDs in superbowls :)

looked at his number of attempted throws
511 for Simms
25 for Randle El
If ARE was any good throwing the ball wouldn’t he have more attempts?
I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.
How is Randle El a better QB than Simms
When he’s not even a QB?

Sure he would
Because when anyone thinks about Randy Moss, they immediately put Kordell in the same discussion.

1st I believe Randy Moss is the most talented WR to ever play NFL football. Yes hes better than Jerry Rice… not in stats but skills.
2nd Kordell had skills man… You know he played as a rookie in superbowl XXX right???
heres a bit about kordell. rookie year….
As the Steelers’ fourth-string quarterback in 1995, Stewart didn’t play in the first five games of his rookie season. However, he got an opportunity to prove himself when the Steeler coaching staff began looking for ways to spark the team’s lackluster offense. He had impressed the coaches with his explosive speed and great moves during practices. “This kid has so much talent,” said Cowher about Stewart in Sports Illustrated for Kids. “Can’t we find a way to use him?” In a highly unusual move, the coaches decided to use Stewart as a “super-substitute,” playing him at three different positions to confuse opposing defenses.
Stewart proved equal to the challenge and his ability to dramatically alter the course of a game soon made him a favorite among Steeler fans. In the eighth game of the 1995 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Stewart entered the game to run a quarterback sneak. Instead, he dashed 16 yards downfield for a first down. The following week against the Cleveland Browns, Stewart ran with the ball twice, caught two passes, and threw his first touchdown pass as a pro. In the next game against the Cincinnati Bengals, he caught a short pass and scored his first touchdown as a pro on a 71-yard run.
Triple Threat on Offense
With Stewart adding new life to the team’s offense, the Steelers became a serious contender in the NFL. They won eight straight games and earned a berth in the playoffs. In the ten games he appeared in during the 1995 season, Stewart completed five of seven passes for 60 yards and a 71.4 completion percentage, carried the ball 15 times for 86 yards, and caught 14 passes for 235 yards. He had balanced his scoring evenly between his different offensive roles, generating one touchdown each on passes, runs, and receptions. In the first round of the playoffs against the Buffalo Bills, he punted the ball 41 yards into the end zone. In the next round against the Indianapolis Colts, Stewart caught a crucial touchdown pass that helped the Steelers clinch the AFC Championship and a berth in the Super Bowl. In Super Bowl XXX against the Dallas Cowboys, Stewart played well as both a quarterback and a running back, but the Steelers lost the game by a score of 27-17.
At the end of the 1995 season Stewart’s teammates named him the team’s top rookie, and also gave him the Steelers’ Joe Greene Great Performance Award.

This is definately a question that is in the back of my head… I still believe BB will be absolved and his career as our QB will go uninterrupted. However, if it doesn’t pan out..I’ll take 1.Dixon 2.Leftwich 3.Batch and be excited to see how the season unfolds.
