The first round picks have been analyzed to death. Personally, I won't get too surprised by our pick unless we manage to get Eric Berry. So now on to other business. Who do you like in the second round, assuming that we pick at 52? I tried to pull together a list of likely candidates without being too optimistic or reaching too much. I consulted several mocks on the web, including big_jay's. I kept it to ten players. Jump.
Generally speaking Cam Thomas and Terrence Cody seem to be out of our reach. I also left off Brandon Spikes. He just won't be there at 52. I left off Arrelious Benn. He will go in the top 40...
In terms of reaches, I included Jamar Chaney. Many drafts have him going later. Big_Jay has him as a solid second rounder. I somehow trust that value. Most everyone out there has Linval Joseph and Torrell Troup in the third round or later including Big_Jay. Surprisingly, Walterfootball has Joseph going ahead of Pittsburgh's pick in the second. He's got some scary measureables. But since I had a self-imposed limitation of 10 in my poll, I kept only one NT. Troup has more great game tape.
Corey Wooten is a reach in the second round now. Ditto Sean Lee.
Brandon Spikes is a huge mystery. Some have him early in the second round and others have him in free fall... I still think he will be long gone by 52. I left him in, mainly hoping for discussion about the differences between Spikes and Chaney.
So there you go. It's defense-heavy. At the last minute I noticed that I included no offensive linemen, so I added Jared Veldheer and J.D. Walton. I dropped Spikes and Chris Cook CB.
