There is nothing much to talk about other than FA, CBA, and the draft. I was wondering what people thought about this guy. He played DE and would be a OLB in our system. We currently do not have much depth at the OLB position and it would be nice to at least have an athlete that can rush the QB. Here are some notes on Willie Young:
Weight: 251 lbs
40 time : 4.82 s
Bench: 25 Vertical: 38 inches
Willie Young was the leader of a banged-up defense for the NC State Wolfpack in 2009. Willie shown as one of the bright spots in the defense and has at times taken over games. He had about 8 sacks increasing his sack totals each of the previous two years. He also had 54 tackles, 14 for losses, 1 interception, 3 passes defensed. Willie Young is fairly durable and hasn't missed many games if any at all due to injuries - I haven't found anywhere where he missed a game and don't recall him having an injury. The only knock on Young is that he disappeared in the middle of the season only recording 1 sack in the last 7 games of 2009. This may have been due to the amount of injuries on the Wolfpack's defense and a the lack of other pass rushing options allowed teams to double team Young who was the only threat on defense.
Right now Young is projected to go in the 4th round and may slip to the 5th round. I think he would be an excellent pick up in the 5th round and can learn behind our current OLB.
