Baltimore gets Boldin

Our fiercest division rival just got better.

NFL.com reports that the Cardinals traded Boldin and a 2010 5th Round pick to the Ravens for 2010 3rd and 4th round picks

Im surprised that the Cardinals dealt Boldin without receiving at least a 2nd round pick in compensation.

My question is this. What happens of Derrick Mason now? Will he retire? Resign? Or will the Ravens let him go to another team now.

Boldin gives the Ravens the much needed receiver that the Ravens have needed for so long, and I can guarantee you Flacco will be one of the first Ravens on the phone to welcome Boldin to the team

A team needs more than one good receiver

Boldin is really good, but is injured often. They dont have any other reliable receivers other than Ray Rice, who is a RB.

yeah but Boldin got his face broke, had surgery to put a plate in his face

and then played the next week

Im pretty sure he missed a couple games with that

Without me, youre only you

by GotWoodley? on Mar 5, 2010 11:48 PM EST up reply actions

only a few

but then he missed stuff for hamstrings.

in the last 3 seasons he’s missed 9 games during the regular season

and missed THREE out of 6 playoff games.

Missed 2 weeks after Jets game

Then had a bye, then returned

Pretty tough on that part, but durability issues still linger like you mention

as big as it gets

it amuses me that all these media people are saying the Bears got the best player available

haha, Boldin immediately makes Baltimore far better than they have ever been…Chicago might make the playoffs – maybe

if you don’t agree with that (how surprising would that be, lmao) think about that awesome running game they have….now add Boldin

the Ravens just jumped to the top

Bolden is not a game breaker

A very good and physical receiver, but not like his buddy Larry Fitzgerald.

by StoneColdSteel on Mar 6, 2010 2:37 PM EST up reply actions

lets see

what he can do with a worse QB, and no other WR’s around him

by GDEUCE on Mar 6, 2010 7:57 PM EST up reply actions

With Boldin as a physical #1, they move Stallworth to #2 where he stretches the field. the third receiver becomes Mason, see the effect. Even Mason #2 and Stallworth #3, totally different picture in coverage. Like Wallace helping Holmes or Holmes helping Hines, two new receivers, one who requires as much attention as Boldin does really help the whole situation.

boldin

hasn’t been a #1 receiver in a while, i believe there is a reason why the cards don’t want to pay him like larry, thats what he wants… and baltimore may pay him but we’ll see how it plays out, remember the last couple of years larry F. has been dictating coverage for the cards which makes everyone more productive, now boldin has to be that guy for baltimore…. we’ll see

they also have nowhere near the running attack we have so he will do fine in Baltimore

by AV23 on Mar 8, 2010 10:59 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think Boldin is the best player

It is just that Baltimore doesn’t have nearly as many holes to fill as the Bears.

There can be no doubt that Boldin should make Baltimore a better team.

I may be old but I... oh d*mn, I forgot what I was going to say.

i agree.

i think boldin is good and a very solid WR, but he’s also very injury prone. and he’s a possession WR (obv valuable) but it’s not like he’s going to be catching 60 yard bombs every other play. be very interesting to see how it works out.

Steal!

To get a starter at any position for a 3rd round pick is pretty good. With your third round pick, you hope to get a guy who can start in a year or two. With this trade, the Ravens are assured of a Pro Bowl WR immediately. Savvy move.

This is the kind of deal the Steelers routinely miss out on, for whatever reason. The Steelers play free agency right: if a guy is a free agent, there is usually a reason (asking too much money, declining play, malcontent). I simply don’t understand the premium placed on draft picks in the NFL. The picks are riskier and less cost efficient, especially first rounders. Guaranteeing millions to a guy who has never performed at the NFL level versus guaranteeing money to a proven commodity? Seems a no brainer.

This is bad news for us

I always thought the biggest advantage we had over the Ravens was that they could not pass on us. With the addition of Boldin and Stallworth the Ravens have quite the WR corp now. Two things will be interesting to see develop, 1)Can Boldin move from the #2 WR to the #1 well? and 2) we will be able to tell if Flacco is a good QB or not now, now more excuses for him.

I'm glad its not marshall

That said, they got Boldin for way less than I think hes worth. But it will be itneresting to see how he performs without Fitz to draw coverage and a mediocre qb throwing to him

by Hpepperdog on Mar 6, 2010 11:01 AM EST up reply actions

I agree.

Boldin is getting the press, but don’t count out Stallworth. I’m not really sure Donte hasn’t managed to stick with a team for very long, but he sure has the speed and hands to make the plays. And he’s got a reason to be a good camper and prove himself. Dut I digress….

We’ll need the front 7 in top form to keep Flacco from getting the time to toss it up. And a few re-inforncements in the draft would be a big help as well. Then again, Joe seems to really have a love affair with Troy and gazes into his eyes when he throws….

Ravens fan here....

but your comment about joe gazing into troy’s eyes made me lol

by mookie_20 on Mar 7, 2010 9:56 PM EST up reply actions

that kind of loot for a 29 year old who is often injured...i question....

but look on the bright side you ravens fans…at least ya’ll weren’t dumb enough to get TO…YET…lmao. Seems to me that you guys have a bunch of WRs who have had their best years already, but still gotta be better than what you have had.

by SteelersFnRule on Mar 6, 2010 12:15 PM EST reply actions

That sounds like a terrible trade for the Cardinals

but regardless I don’t think receivers were Baltiore’s problems I think i was Flacco’s inability to go through progressions and not make up his mind before the snap where he was going to go with the ball and then fixate on that target. Obviously getting fixated on throwing to Boldin is likely going to be more successful than fixating on 400 year old Derick Mason but they’d likely improve just as much by focusing heavily on him reading the entire field and going through progressions during training camp.

Poor Ike Taylor.

I think that Ike will be okay

as long as we don;t expect him to catch anything.

Every corner in the league would get worse with a starting safety out.

Especially when the replacement is Tyrone Carter. Ike was the only solid part of our secondary when Troy was out

by GDEUCE on Mar 7, 2010 3:26 AM EST up reply actions

Ike has faced far better WRs than Bolden

In the SB he faced Fitz…not Bolden. He kept him in check too until he blitzed on that one play that resulted in his 64 yard TD.

He shut down Marshall

Who is a better version of Boldin.

by Hpepperdog on Mar 7, 2010 9:45 PM EST up reply actions

Ike can handle Boldin, Stallworth we might have trouble with, unless K. Lewis develops and becomes a starter, then he can handle Boldin and Ike crush Stallworth.

I wonder...

if coach whiz is a little bitter with the black and gold after not getting our HC job and losing the SB to us, and that translated to an AFC North rival discount?

by Redcol70 on Mar 7, 2010 2:43 AM EST reply actions

Boldin is overrated

He is good. He is tough and has great hands. But…he gets hurt every year, he’s 29, he can be a malcontent at times and he cannot stretch the field. Don’t get me wrong, Balt is better with him but not that much better. He is only slightly better than Mason. Glad they got Boldin and not Marshal cuz that kid is a beast.

Marshall would have taken our first

So it becomes either Marshall or Boldin + a first round pick, which Ozzie strikes gold with almost every time.
