Time for Ben to grow up

First I want to say I understand that Ben is not guilty until proven to be in a court of law. This post is my reaction to the combined events over the past year, not an attempt to convince others of Ben’s guilt or innocence.  We all make mistakes and it’s very likely that this is a cooked up story, I know I hope it is.

Three things I strongly dislike in the people I associate myself with; 1. people who are stupid and don’t need to be, 2. people who lie, and 3. hypocrisy although some may argue #’s 2 and 3 are the same thing.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.  He seems to not have learned anything from his previous accusation.   This lends me to believe that he is being stupid when he doesn’t need to be.  He isn’t developmentally delayed, although I wonder if the motorcycle accident didn’t bump his common sense node in his brain.  He should have learned from his situation last year to not put himself in questionable circumstances with questionable people.

So it’s an understatement to say in Big Ben’s current situation I’m disappointed.  I feel like Ben lied when he apologized to his team for the distraction and then went out and put himself in a situation where a similar event could take place again.  If he had been sorry he would have stopped the behavior that created the opportunity for someone to take advantage of him.

On the hypocrisy point; unless Ben only plays for Jesus on the field I would consider him a hypocrite considering that in the beginning he was also very open about his Christian faith. He wore the words, "Play for Jesus," on his cleats until the NFL forbade it.  If he only chooses to play for Jesus on the field and Plays for himself on random Thursdays at the bar I’ll continue to be disappointed in his choices.  Has Ben lost his commitment to his faith?  It seems that it is possible that he has.  I know he continues to support charitable giving and I admire that, but I haven’t heard anything about his commitment to his faith since his rookie year.

My advice to Ben is that it is time to grow up.  Having just celebrated your 28th birthday you’ve had time to sow your wild oats.  You have six to ten years to seal your legacy as one of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game.  That time will fly by and you’ll be sitting on your porch looking back in 10 years and say wow, if only I had spent that time in the gym or studying game tape instead of getting drunk and groping random women, maybe I could’ve been truly great!

im disappointed too

im fairly certain he’s innocent, but i agree he needs to learn not to put himself in these situations. whats sad is that his reputation is being tarnished because of stupid decisions. he probably just thought he was going to have a good time and when he met this girl thought she was in to him, made a move and was apparently reading the signals wrong. so now that constitutes sexual assault? its a damn shame

Stupid Ben

I’m a big fan of #7 on the football field. I think he is the best QB the Steelers have had since Terry Bradshaw. But from this day forward I will no longer refer to him as Big Ben. His new nickname is Stupid Ben because that is what he is.
One motorcycle accident (sans helmet) and 2 sexual harassment charges solidify his utter stupidity. I will still root for him on the field but personally I think he is a big stupid child. I am sure his parents are extremely disappointed with his actions.

Agree Stupid Ben

If he gets any more stupid; he’ll be the next in a long line of stupid athletes. That doesn’t make it right; maybe he just had too many bumps in the head. No excuse! Stupid is as Stupid does. Grow up and get back to being a man instead of a spoiled little boy. You are not exempt from the laws. Again, STUPID!!!!! You are not the only one playing on the team – act like it.

If he is guilty, lock him up and throw away the key. If he is innnocent he needs to realize this isn’t the 70’s and he isn’t Joe Willy

Malor do you have a life?

Every post the Steelers have on this website you comment on. I’’ve narrowed it down to 3 options. 1) you obviously have nothing to do with your life. 2) You like Pittsburgh more than you let on 3) You have a problem with senseless blogs on the internet.. might need to get that checked out. Maybe a combination of the 3.

See the problem is we accuse him of not being a troll, so he has to make sure he comes up with a sufficient number of troll posts each season. He was off the boards for a long time this season, he’s just making up for lost posts.

That goes without saying.

But there is probably more to the story, and I agree with option #2…

Use spare time wisely Ben

I’m still leaning to the side that this is just an attempt to golddig and that this will work out in Ben’s favor.LIke many, maybe just hoping that it does anyway. Not knocking on Ben but maybe he should be using his free time in the weight room, training or staying in shape.Spending time in the film room may also eat up a little of his club time also.

I disagree

From what I understand, if we assume Ben is innocent, then all he’s doing is going out with his mates in the off-season. I wouldn’t call that stupidity. Maybe he needs to change his mates. How many of us can say we haven’t had a friend previously we can say that about. My own personal opinion of his guilt, I’ll keep to myself. Lets not open up that can of worms. However, he’s a big time star, and everyone knows it. If it’s a golddigger, there’s not a lot he can do other than to not go out, and I am not in any position to put that on someone

But the Steelers are. And if they are smart they will tell him as much. They do, after all, hold the 1.02 million dollar card…

I have hope but my faith in his decision making is dwindling

I don’t know what he does to prompt accusations and sincerely (for his sake) hope his accuser made a mountain out of a mole hill… but time and an investigation will certainly tell.

Something certainly needs to change with him. I sincerely hope he meets a nice woman (not girl) that he can build a stable home-life with and paint the town TOGETHER.

Ben

The Steelers need to make a stand here. Publicly. Something Ben is doing is causing him a good deal of headaches as well as his teammates and the the Steelers. He’s certainly not guilty until proven otherwise but the organization needs to make it clear… clean up your act or get out. As much as I love him as a player I don’t like rooting for guys who are accused of what he’s being accused of. I have a hard time believing his luck is this bad. Let’s hope it’s just that anyway and he goes on to have a great career as a Steeler.

It must suck

to be 28, rich and famous. It has to be hard to keep your respect for other people when all they fawn over you about is what they think you are based on being a football star, not about who you are as a person.

Ben should go camping with Ricky Williams and talk about the meaning of life.

Ben is a target

I’ve seen three off-season “incidents” that were really much ado about nothing(except for the bike wreck, but I still think it wasn’t an accident) and am starting to believe the theory that opponents and/or gold-diggers are targeting Ben because Ben can’t see how he makes himself open to trouble.

Everyone who says Ben needs to grow up and let go of the bar scene is 100% correct; spend enough time drinking and trouble WILL find you.

then he should just think how much more boring things will be sitting around a prison cell.
