``Without a question,'' Clark told the Miami Herald. ``That's the reason we waited so long to take any (free agent) trips. We had interested teams that I didn't really want to go to, and I didn't want to try to make myself look busy by going to a bunch of different places."

Well it appears as if Ryan Clark is not considering coming back in B&G. I think he wants way more than he is actually worth. Let the Dolphins overpay him and we can draft the best safety that falls to us.

What happened to

“Wanting to play next to Troy”?

Remember the last time we let a loudmouth go to Miami? Yeah, that worked out really well for them that time, didn’t it? LOL!

The flip flop is quite curious

I wonder if he was trying to “keep his options open” and said that comment thinking it wouldn’t really get out the way it did. Kind of a slap in the face to the Steelers IMO…then again they probably didn’t offer him what he want, so he went else where to get it.

What he meant to say is, “I want to play next to Troy if you offer me enough money to do so.”

Really wierd

I wonder if this means more Tyrone Carter next year…Please no. Well, actually, Carter was pretty good with His Hairiness back there to cover for him.

I guess this means Safety in the 1st round this year, and no Iupati…Oh well…We can take the mediocre O-line for another year…

I never really thought as Clark as a loud mouth.

Sure he got mad at the fans and during this free agency time he is a little talkative, but no more than any other player.

Its all part of the business

I’m sure his letting his feelings get to him at the moment. After time has passed he’ll look at his years with the Steelers fondly and will be proud of the championship he won with us. We fans should not get too riled up over any of his spur of the moment comments and should appreciate the years, and those vicious hits, he gave to us.

Great reminder

I always liked Ryan and appreciate all of the great effort he gave Pittsburgh. Wish you the best, 25! Once a Steeler….always a Steeler.

If He Leaves I Wish 25 Well

He gave body parts for this organization and deserves to get whatever he can with what time he has left in cleats. Forever XLIII.
That said, I have believed all along they were prepared to let 25 leave for a last payday (55?) and draft one of 3 real good safeties that will be available in round 1.

Very possibly, but it’s very un-steeler like to go into the draft with a gaping hole. We’ll bring someone in before the draft to fill the safety position, no way we go in with an injury-prone Troy, Carter, and Mundy as the safeties.

Agreed

If not Clark, the Steelers will bring in a FA S to compete with Mundy and perhaps their #1.

let him go

I’ve been a Ryan Clark fan because he lays people out and is a great character guy. However, at 30 and aging…..his coverage skills are weak and Troy covered them up. And he doesn’t have ball hawking skills! He focuses on the hit rather than the ball. Not worth the money he wants. Go get a free agent on the cheap or draft one in the first round

i'd prefer not

mundy seems to be at least one more year away from being starter quality. i’d prefer him watching from the sidelines & only getting in on random plays as much as possible

Perfectly said.

I loved the guy, and wished we had him. But if he wants to seek his fortune elsewhere, that’s OK. Alas, poor 25, I knew him well.

Nothing but love for #25

This is a guy who nearly died laying it on the line for our football team. He was a warrior on the field for us and he gave us everything he had. For an undrafted FA, he’s had a damn good NFL career. I don’t blame him for wanting to get paid in what will surely be his last contract as an NFL player. Of course, I wish he’d been able to agree to a deal here, but we had other priorities. So it’s a smart move on his part to move on. I wish him the best of luck.

That said, who the hell is playing in his spot next year? That will be one of the most intriguing questions of the off-season…

Safety

It’s interesting. If we let Clark goes that means that the FO and the coaching staff have some serious confidence in Ryan Mundy being able to come in and play at a high level. I can see us drafting safety in the first round, but if Troy didn’t start in year one, it’s hard to imagine who would.

Curious if anybody has heard of thoughts to put Keenan Lewis in at Safety. Could he make the transition?

by SteelerBuddha on Mar 7, 2010 11:25 PM EST reply actions

He’d be a big safety, that’s for sure. I haven’t heard too much praise of his ball awareness, and ideally I’d like someone with it to be there, someone like Burnett (though Clark didn’t). Maybe Keenan could do it, but it seems like we’d be wasting his height in the position more than at CB, where we are seriously hurting for some press coverage and matchups against taller receivers. Not saying it wouldn’t come in handy as a safety, but it would come into play more if he can develop into a quality CB.

It’s also less likely we’ll end Boldin’s season.

Unless you want to revoke the Ward rule and play Boldin at LB.

Ha, the reason he “waited so long” was that he is not a high priority for teams, nothing more. He’s just saying what his agent is telling him to say, best of luck to him. He had stones.

Not sure anyone was/is "shitting all over" Ryan

We all realize he was an important part of this team over the past few years. A fierce competitor and a bone-crunching hit deliverer. However, if Ryan would rather be else where, we should be ready to move on as well.

However, if I were Clark, I would stay with the Steelers so that I didn’t have to watch out for one of Ward’s crunching blocks!

Smooches Ryan!

I don’t think he’s going to be as successful in Miami as he was with the Steelers but he has to try and make as much money as he can while he can.

I don’t know why but I always thought he looked like Marlo Stanfield The Wire.
Gonna miss #25.
