Free Agency Open Thread (cont.)
Since the last free agency open thread post is approaching 500. I am opening a new open thread post for free agency breaking news and discussion. I will do as I did in the last post. I will put out rumors that I see or hear and I will provide a link to any that involve the Steelers. I may also provide a link to news that invloves a "big name" player that I think will draw interest. Everyone feel free to join in.
I made a boo boo and put the breaking news about Ben in a comment on a random page instead of making a post but I figured someone would see my post and run with the news. With out further adeiu let's get this party started right.
It was said Will Allen is visiting the Steelers. Well it's rumored he will sign for 3 years: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4976203

FWP will visit the Redskins today
Justin Fargas was released from Oakland
And a rumor that Lendale White wants outta Tennessee

Portis a little more elusive
but both are the same as injury prone is concerned…
He won’t be a starter there though, you wanna start FWP, don’t go there.
Well I am sure he will mention that to them

Wasn't Fargas Oaklands best rusher the last couple years?
Hell, I’d want out of Tennessee too…

What's the scoop on Will Allen?
Stat-wise he had a big 2006, but 2007 and 2008 not so much. 2009, thumb injury.
Only 4 INTs in 6 years, not much of a ball hawk. What’s his strong suit, what does he bring?
I just posted a fanpost over at Buc'Em
Hopefully they can give us some info

One comment after re-signing him
Allen is a solid backup with a lot of on the field experience and he’s a solid special teamer. I’m glad we could keep him around.
Yeah I noticed after I posted

Any veteran QBs available?
"He had no teeth, and he was slobbering all over himself. I'm thinking, 'You can have your money back, just get me out of here. Let me go be an accountant." I can't tell you how badly I wanted out of there."

We already have the best QB in the league. Have a little faith, would ya?
Who's laughing now, O Line??? Ben Roethlisberger (from the Podium) to his O-Line and the world in Superbowl XLIII
Still have my fingers crossed, at least until 4 pm today.
I am still sick from the news I heard on Friday. Probably one of the top 5 all time sickest Steelers related news I have heard.

Worth noting
As it mentions in the article, Battle played ST under our new ST coach. I don’t think it is necessarily bad news for Sweed, but instead just insurance in case he continues to have trouble contributing to the team.
I was joking around
I still think Sweed could be a big impact player. That’d be a lot easier for him to do if everyone thought hat way.

Typical Steelers
Covering their bases so they really can draft BPA. There was a slight hole at WR because of Sweed’s flaky nature. We had a hole at safety so they bring in a vet with good experience to fill the hole.
Much like the Shaun McDonald signing this might end up being nothing at all. But if Sweed or another rookie don’t show anything we have a back up with game experience.
by Chicago Steeler on Mar 8, 2010 2:27 PM EST up reply actions
man all Battle is
Is a ST ace and a fire to light under Sweed.. He could easily overtake him so Sweed needs to step up or he’s on the block
Does this count?
According to this…..I win.

Who had 2 FA WR signing?
Sweed possible trade bait
With the signing of El and Battle, does this mean Sweed and the 18th to move up? Marshall is all but gone in Denver and Miami needs a WR. Just a thought, maybe McClain
No one will trade for Sweed, he doesn’t have so much value that someone wouldn’t just wait till we cut him.
Battle's mostly ST
And El gives position flexibility that Tomlin loves so much. Maybe he’s the new backup QB if Ben can’t keep his pants on. (I kid, I kid).
