Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Why Jack Klompus is not afraid of Anquan Boldin

Short, succinct, and to the point, like Arn's love life.

  • Since Anquan Boldin has entered the league in 2003, the Seahawks have fielded a defense ranked better than 15th only twice, and worse than 20th three times.  The Rams have fielded a defense that has never been better than 17th, and has had four seasons ranked at 31.  In that timespan, the 49ers have had a top ten defense once, and have finished worse than 20th overall the remaining seasons, as well as 2 seasons ranked 32nd (they were the reason the Rams couldn't finish 32nd in some of their seasons).
  • Anquan Boldin has only completed a full 16 game season twice, his rookie year in 2003 and in 2006.  He has missed half of his playoff games.
  • Anquan Boldin has 27 career 100 yard receiving games, 14 of which came against one of the worst defensive divisions in football, the NFC west.
  • He has a whopping total of 1 post season TD.

I may break down the numbers even more if I get bored later.

  • He has never been the #1 option.

Actually the second one might be a lie

Not sure if he was technically the 1 or 2 as a rookie

He was the number one his rookie year and Larry’s first year, he was just injured to start the season and never was 100%.

He still nearly equaled Larry’s catches and yards with 6 fewer games played.

joe flacco had 315 completions last year

78 of them were to ray rice. somebody checks down about as much as trent edwards

by klompus on Mar 8, 2010 4:06 PM EST reply actions

Somebody had as good a receiving core as Ben had O-line in 2008. Even we covered their receivers.

by Phantaskippy on Mar 8, 2010 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

Joe Flacco only sees Ray Rice

as the only receiver on the field. I might too. Wouldn’t worry about Boldin. It’ll take a few more seasons for Bert to get the memo about the other receivers.

Brian: Face it Peter, you get competitive about everything.
Peter: I am so not competitive. In fact, I am the least non-competitive. So I win.

by SoCalSteelerFan on Mar 8, 2010 4:10 PM EST reply actions

Seriously?

In 2008 when Flacco had receivers he threw to them all the time, Mason had 80 receptions, Clayton had 41 and Heap had 35.

Rice and McGahee still did well, but when Flacco has weapons he gets the ball to them.

Do not underestimate the power of the Unibrow.

I'll refer you to James Walker's blog.

Boldin has performed well against every AFCN team in the 2 times he’s played them.

Opponent Games Stats
Steelers 2 16 Rec., 202 Yds., 1 TD
Bengals 2 10 Rec., 122 Yds., 2 TD
Browns 2 6 Rec., 111 Yds., 0 TD
Totals 6 32 Rec., 435 Yds., 3 TD

Looks like the majority of his success has come against the Steelers!

Yeah that really has no correlation at all

Boldin will be drawing a lot more attention without Fitzgerald on the other side of the field. Thanks for playing though.

We all know you are afraid. It is okay to hide it.

Boldin for Mason

Boldin is good, but Mason is a Steeler killer. He was good against us when he played in Tennesee and has been good as a Raven. Seems with Boldin now on board, the Ravens will have no need for Mason. As a Steeler fan, I’ll take Boldin over Mason.

Steeler Killer?

I’m a Ravens fan and I wouldn’t even consider Mason a “Steeler killer.” No doubt that he has had success in some games against you, but was not making play after play like Boldin is going to do. Remember that TD he dropped in Pitt this year? That was no Steeler killer that’s for sure.

Has Mason already retired? I wonder if Mason would decide to play this year alongside Boldin just to see how far they could go. As much as I would hate to see it, they could be a pretty good duo for at least a year.

by Piratefan13 on Mar 9, 2010 8:16 AM EST up reply actions

Mason has not retired yet, but it does not look like the Ravens will be signing him anytime soon. He turned down our first offer to test Free Agency. He is not as much of a priority right now since we got Marshall and we might actually want to go younger in his spot with a 1st or 2nd round draft choice.

I have mixed feeling about bringing Mason back though. I would love to bring him back because he is still very well capable of putting up 70+ catches and 1,000+ yards. But we would also like to start building this group for the future considering how deep the WR class is this year.

Mcnair was the Steeler killer

Mason just asisted

I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

He seems to play pretty good against you guys so I would be very worried.

No he doesn't

I don't really care who flacco is throwing to

if it’s near the end zone, the defense has about as good a chance at catching it as any raven on the field. That guy stinks it up in the red zone.
