Steelers Resign Clark
Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the Steelers have re-signed free agent S Ryan Clark.
Smartly, the Steelers didn't stop pursuing Clark after their Monday addition of backup-caliber safety Will Allen. Also smartly, Clark leveraged Pittsburgh by visiting the Dolphins on Monday. Clark turns 31 during the upcoming season and has never been a big-time playmaker, but is a banger in the back end with above-average range. His return is good news for a Steelers secondary that may experience major overhaul at cornerback.

That's fantastic if it's accurate...
…and it makes me feel a whole lot better about the secondary. I don’t even care if we overpaid for him. We were going to struggle to find a guy for next year who would play as well in our system.
Side note: can you ever recall a day when the Steelers were so aggressive in free agency?

Think it is because of Bens legal problems and stupidity problems

I'm thinking that.
I’m thinking they are trying to plug all the gaps they can in case they need to draft a QB high…
I sure hope I’m wrong.

I also breaking news we signed randle el to a 3 year deal…so much for quiet free agency lol
i should just delete today's 6 pack
Haha. I was wrong about Clark and the quiet FA. I hope this means we draft some good depth this year and develop it

Looking more and more likely
that the Steelers will draft a running back with their first pick in April
The only managing Ben does is he manages to WIN games

I'm thinking Iupati
Or maybe a CB

I never in a million years
expected the Steelers to be this active in free agency, let alone this early. However, so far, they have at least kept to form by only going after 2nd and 3rd tier FAs along with getting their own re-signed.

a reply to chicago steeler
I actually doubt that the Steelers will draft a RB in the 1st, but, if they do, Johnny_S has to eat his terrible towel and I am holding him to it.

Didnt see this coming
Thought no chance in hell Clark re-signs.
Thought no chance in hell Hampton re-signs.
Thought no chance in hell Antwan re-signs.
Now they’re talking to Foote too???
I think i’ll hush now.
Any other free agents anybody is really keen on?
Maybe we could get you to announce that there’s no chance in hell we’ll sign them… : )

Well Ben probably wouldn't be paying him hundreds of thousands by the hour
if he was pessimistic about their chances would he?

Yeah but it's all good
Roy has the #1 player and the #1 point guard coming in. Plus with Ed Davis likely having to stay another because of his knee injury ruining his draft stock they’re going to be stacked for 2011 and 2012.

Nice
…other Steelers/Tar Heels fans. Plus Henson was a (the only) bright spot in the Duke game, and with a little more strength and weight, will be a stud next year like he was expected to be.
And who knows, now they can get some “tournament experience” with a deep run in the NIT. Never thought I’d be saying that once Roy came back.
And
the football and baseball teams are going to be stacked. early mock drafts for 2011 have like 6-7 UNC defensive players as possible first rounders.

Butch has really stacked that team
But this is the year that the U repays you back in a big way.
Other than that, good luck next season.

Allow me to be the naysayer here
Clark is slow, not a ball hawk, not a playmaker at FS and aging very fast. OK, so the fact that he is back doesn’t leave us naked. That’s good. But I was hoping for some playmaking ability back there. I like the Allen signing. Replaces Tyrone who is god aweful and is a good Special teams guy. I’m just not that thrilled baout the Clark resign. It feels like we are allowing our D to age as opposed to get younger and qwuicker.
Shhhhh
Qwiet you.

Younger and quicker
that is what the draft is for, don’t think for a second that we still don’t pick up a FS in the draft, probably second round and a CB in the fourth, I think first round will be McClain or a lineman and if not they will make up for it in the third or fourth (if they trade their 3rd to get McClain) I really think they get McClain, he is the best player and makes the most sense right now. They got a lot of money already tied up in the line, the only position I can see them filling is T.
Steelers football is 60 mins.

With the 2011 strike looming...
This all makes sense. They are really setting up for a run this year. This is a deep draft and DB’s could be the focus, but is no longer a necessity.
hmmm, told you
predicted 3 weeks ago they’d resign Hampton, Colon and Clark -
they don’t need RB in Rd 1, but might take RB in 2 or 3
McClain doesn’t really have the exact skill set to replace Farrior and I don’t see ‘em trading up, so I’m thinking Iupati or Pouncey if they’re there … or Witherspoon by trading down
I don't think McClain would really be replacing Farrior
I think it would be more like Timmons replaces Farrior and they bring in a banger strong run stopping guy to fill the role Foote did.

I'm glad no one commented on the comment
but is a banger in the back end
