Steelers need to draft a QB
Really
I don't think the kid gets it. The Rooney's will not put up with the face of their team out picking up chicks just anywhere. I love Ben and want to see him exonerated of these damn charges, but one has too accept the fact there would be no there there if he had stayed home and partied.
I like many fans do not buy this assault crap but if anything comes of it he will be gone. The team should draft a QB in the later rounds of the draft. I know their is no one of Ben's caliber in the draft but the message would be a strong one. KEEP YOUR NOSE TO THE GRINDSTONE IN THE OFF SEASON!!!. Let's face it 108 million should be enough money to be a year round employee.
While we are on the subject you should take you're Mom along to buy clothes! The devil went down too Georgia and drink like a champ shirts are a little high school don't you think!!!
When I was 28 I was already married with a kid and one on the way. So no rocks are thrown in a glass house if I had that kind of money at 28 (and was single) I probably could not resist woman throwing themselves at me. But hey Ben you are a STEELER!!! so grow up.

They May Pick A QB
I just think they will use a lower round or compensatory pick to do it. They will need an extra arm in camp as usual. And, with Charle getting more brittle by the day it is a good time to get a new understudy going under DD.
When You Run The Ball Good Things Happen
That would be a strong signal!
That would wake the whole team up to the off season is just as important a representation of the franchise as the regular season. And Charlie, brittle? He’s just one good hit from turning into a pile of dust! LOL! Wouldn’t mind that kid Jamie Skelton in a late pick. Let’s just all hope this turns out for the best with Ben, & HE LEARNS FROM THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I probably could not resist woman throwing themselves at me
hey none of us can imagine being a multi millionaire bachelor with 4 months off of work. I went out when I was 28 and hooked up with a few women, luckily none of them had a change of heart afterwards and tried to press charges, now I am not saying that is what happened but that is my opinion.
it is no wonder players have to date actresses and stuff, just to avoid gold diggers, and crazy girls.
I just read a great article I think everyone should read
Let’s let the facts develop before we make hasty moves…just like Rooney is doing.

Clearly there are two sides to every story.
BB is an easy target because of the lady out in Reno, and regardless of that outcome, as we see with the new story out of Georgia, it’s most likely to come up again. Be prepared.
It’s important to wait until the facts come out before judgement is passed, and I understand that. I will say that unfortunately, I’m leaning towards ‘this is a problem’ side of the conversation because I do believe where there is smoke, there is fire.
Not that BB needs to become a hermit; that is unreasonable. As a just turned 28 year old, can’t he show some smarts and at least go where there are other young adults? Not 20’ish college kids? By GA law, 18 – 21 are allowed in Clubs, yet can’t be served. Is this a good place for him to be? Find me a parent on this site that would be ok with a 28/18 relationship. I’d be surprised if you did.
It also doesn’t look good with how quickly he grabbed THAT lawyer. It was smart to get a lawyer, don’t misunderstand me. THAT lawyer has a client list that our QB needs to keep from joining.
I thought you were right on the money...
it’s most likely to come up again. Be prepared
That, my friend, is the problem…

I know, and he's making himself an easy target.
I’m not even sure it matters if he did or didn’t do it. The situation was bad news, and exactly what he didn’t need.
Since when do we need facts to judge in America
Sorry to say, guilty or not guilty, the public opinion has already been formed one way or the other regardless of what comes of this case…err situation. I get it that we should all stand behind our beloved QB but BB cannot go in the past and change what public opinion has formed around him. Even if Ben is exonerated the damage is done. Excuses are for the weak and actions always speak louder than words. The actions have become very apparent to me. BB needs to grow up and mature into a responsible adult. Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, John Elway, Dan Marino all had to deal with women, temptations, helmets, and scandal. It is no secret how BB carry’s himself in public and around horney ladies, most of them will tel you that he is an ass. I even question his wardrobe at this point. Drink like a champ and Devel T’s are a bit childish for a young millionaire. Its time for BB to grow up and get his act together.
As for the post, BB scandal or not. We still need to get another QB in for camp.
I'm not partitioning to all of America
I am simply partitioning to Steelers fans. Actually, not even that broad, just to the members who read this board. To the people who have been a fan of the Steelers and BB and have seen all he has given to this team. I think it is fair to ask that select group to wait to toss Ben away to the Sharks before knowing any facts about this case.
This community does know that the McNulty case is pretty much garbage. No arrest, no criminal charges, and pretty much everyone of her coworkers saying she was crazy (among a large list of reasons). And this community knows that nothing has come out on this case, besides “he said, she said.”
America can judge away ignorantly without any sort of fact or logic. However, I do believe we have a very intelligent gathering of people here who can wait to actually find out what happened before giving someone the stigma of rapist.

I agree
just because the media and ill informed members of the public like to jump to conclusions in their rush to see the successful brought low is no reason that people who actually look at the issue and the facts need to make the same mistake.
I also think comparisons to previous generations of quarterbacks of the 70s and even 80s is not very useful. The media and how they handle athletes indiscrections was very different back then.
It seems we ask too much of our professional athletes. His job is do play quarterback, not teach Sunday school. And he is getting better at his job all the time. I think Barkley was right on this issue.
I am not sure who of the fans on this board have said Ben is “guilty of rape.” If they have they are incorrect and prejudging. I don’t think I’m tossing Ben to the sharks by calling him stupid. I call him stupid not because he got accused of sexual assault…twice, or fell off a motorcycle going 60 MPH without a helmet or any of the other stories we hear about him. I call him stupid because I really think he is. Especially when I compare him to me or some of the successful people that I hang with around LA. To me it’s a cop out to say we don’t understand because we don’t have his money and fame.
I love Ben’s play on the field. I will root for Ben on the field when he is wearing the Steelers black and gold. The facts will come out and Ben will be exonerated or not. I call Ben stupid not because he is guilt or to throw him under the bus but because Ben is stupid. Big Stupid.

To add to your statement-
I, for one, think that we have every right, rhyme and reason to opine on this issue. We’re fans- not some disinterested party or hateful fans of an opposing team. By the very nature of our investing time, emotion and money into this team we earn the right to have and openly discuss our opinions on the topic.
I’m starting to get a little pissed off about those few who keep advocating that we all ignore this whole issue and wait to be told how to feel about it.
Yep because that is exactly what I said.

But don’t be upset when somebody suggests that a great deal of the opining is baseless and ill informed and about as useful and incisive as a fart in a whirlwind.

As a fan where do you stand with his antics. Do you think he needs to mature and grow up? Is he acting in the most responsible manner? Or, is he just an innocent victim? Facts or know facts there is room for improvement in these areas.
Also let’s not forget our 5 game slide last year. My opinion on the matter was clear. It was more than just X and Os. There was dissention in the locker room between two of the teams top leaders. On the surface the issue was a concussion and BB ability to play. The root of the problem came from BBs ability to lead by example. Hines called him out and I am sure was sick an tired of yet another huge distraction and setback from the quarterback. The locker room was split and we certainly didn’t play our best football dueing that stretch. There was even rumor of coach Tomlin losing his team.

I still question, would other,(un-named players to avoid the controversy!), get this,"pass" in the media?
We’ll have to see how Goodell reacts to this as well. We all know certain women advocacy groups will be out in full force soon on this, & Goodell is about the image of the league, PERIOD! I, seriously, pray BB is innocent of anything outside habitual stupidity! But as TheCommish wrote below,“Even if Ben is exonerated the damage is done.” Unfortunately, he is without doubt the face of the franchise, and that face is about this cute:

Point is, and quite to the point, no beating around the bush, no hidden agenda, no subliminal message, no snake oil for sale: This is a double standard being applied. I can’t say it any more clearly. I’ve met Ben in a Gold Star & really liked him even more after the encounter. I love Ben as our QB & pray to God he is exonerated. I want him to get more Lombardi’s than Bradshaw. (Then we could quit hearing about the cheating Tom Brady being so special!) BUT, Ben on the field is a completely different issue than the media free pass allotted him on this. T.O. with 2, not one, 2 sexually deviant accusations would get this benefit of the doubt? LOL! Sometimes, the truth really does hurt.
"You never stand so tall as to when you reach down to pick someone up."
it's funny
I recall Bettis being a victim of a sexual scam once and I recall everyone rallying around him quite nicely.
Rallying Around Ben!
During the 1st accusation, I should’ve been Ben’s damn lawyer! Now what? I mean, I LITERALLY, made some people stay the hell away from me with the derogatory mess about Ben! Now what? 2x’s? Really? Just dumb luck? Schlep Rock syndrome victim? Wrong place, wrong time?
The Bus was accused once, proven innocent, never heard of it again. Ben hasn’t even finished the 1st case & is in that same sinking boat again! (1st case is a dead issue, just waiting for the civil suit to clear because no criminal case has a leg to stand on.)
Just a bad situation.
"You never stand so tall as to when you reach down to pick someone up."
Two words for you
Duke Lacrosse – And they were eventually exonerated, but not before a lot of damage was done.
So I will wait for the outcome before I condemn BB.

Everybody on this site will completely forget about this situation. And if we win the Super Bowl it will be as if this accuser never existed.
Get a grip.

Of course there’s a good chance that Ben will do something very stupid in the following off-season to remind everyone.

I’ll forget about this — except the embarrassment — only if he’s exonerated. Completely. But if there is a shred of truth to him sexually assaulting women, winning won’t make me forget. At all. And I don’t think the Rooneys will look at it lightly either.

No QB worth a pick
in this draft. UDFA only, and not many of those. If Ben goes down, Dixon’s the guy.
Let’s hope that Ben can get his act together. Yesterday AM drive I was listening to a radio interview of a reporter for a local sports scandal sheet – he said that Ben has a problem with alcohol. If this is so, his problem had better be addressed and soon.

The question was well posed on the radio today, if a Grand Jury finds this case to have enough evidence to be tried (indicted being the word) What will the league do?
Vick was indicted and immediately suspended indefinitely. They can’t overlook Ben if they came down hard on Vick.
Can't say what the league will do.
I do have a sense of what the Rooney’s will do if he’s convicted of anything.

QB
Two years in arrow Ben is in a sex scandal does this not trouble every one? The case in Reno, which I think, was a set up but now I am thinking just maybe it was not and now another one in Georgia. Every one can say the guy has money, fame and he is going to have woman throwing themselves at him but the guy is a NFL quarter back, a leader on a championship team who has been in the league for what going on six years doesn’t everyone think he should know better? Ben just might have a little problem, that is Ben and they should at this time think about drafting a QB in the second round because this is serious people Ben just might end up in jail or sitting on the side lines for a couple of years. I think Dixon can win games but can he win the big ones and at this time Ben is the offence.

We already have a QB
I think Dixon is ok and could develop nicely. I’m not saying he’d be a top 5 QB but when has that been vital to the Steelers to be success.
I agree
Ole Crazy Legs is going to be a premier QB one of these days, weather he gets the shot in B&G is still a mystery. If ben wants to keep doing his thing and he goes down for it, Crazy Legs is the guy, and he will do just fine. We will have to muster through a learning curve year, but in the end he will be no Neil O’donnell…..yikes i hate that name….wait a minute…maybe that’s Sweed’s problem, he’s wearing his old number….he needs to change immediately and all will be well!
QB now becomes a need
Because BB thinks with his little ben and not his brain, he is going to get suspended for 4-8 games either this year or next (unless he goes to jail). Vick was suspended upon indictment. If BB is inocent this time, next time will happen. Mark my words.
We need to draft another QB in rounds 5-7 as insurance policy. Dixon is the #1 backup. Batch is old and brittle.
by Steeler Nation VA on Mar 10, 2010 8:38 AM EST reply actions
QB already a need
I don’t see the value of Batch taking up a roster spot. He is too fragile to play and his arm seems to be long past its best days. If they want to hire him as a consultant or something, would love to have him on the sidelines, but I think his helmet wearing days are behind him.
He hasn't even been charged let alone convicted
If he is innocent, I have no problem with him partying, drinking, and bangin’ around. He is living it up with his own offensive line, and it isn’t illegal to drink too much. After reading about the ‘86 Mets, I have learned that team chemistry can be maintained even with half the team blown-out on coke and Kevin Mitchell slitting a cat’s throat while holding teammates hostage.
BEN HAD TWO OFF DUTY POLICE officers as bodyguards. They were with him at all times. This case is going nowhere.
Ben is 28.
Ben is SINGLE!
Ben didnt drink and drive.
It is heresay he was in bathroom. others are now disputing that.
So because ben was stalked by a money grubbing chick in vegas he is now not allowed to go out as a single male at 28?
riiiiiiight.
lets just lock him up in a studio apartment till season starts. after all we paid for him right? hes our property right?
give it a rest.
ben is innocent.
and that is a fact.
and until a court case concludes that will STAY FACT.
