Tebow before Clausen and McCoy, any thoughts?
I was pretty surprised when Tebow went 25 for Denver although I did enjoy the special ESPN has been airing with Gruden and the QBs and Tebow def. showed he is willing to be coached. Don't you wish there were more players like that?

My thoughts
Josh McDaniels has been smoking some top shelf herb and I want some. To trade up to get Tebow just seems stupid to me. I mean I like Tebow but to take him that early is flat nuts.

agreed!
can’t see any of the other teams behind that spot selecting him. seems like a ginormous over-reach to me. he was at best an early (and i cringe as i say that) second rounder. they could have given up far less to snag him later

didja know that herb is essentially legal in denver now?
The Tebow choice suddenly makes much more sense, don’t it?

oh, thats easy
poster I was responding to said he “wants some of what McDaniels is smoking” in case you didn’t know, Denver voted to essentially legalize ‘herb’ not too long ago. You cannot be busted for possession in Denver now. (and amazingly enough, the city hasn’t burned to the ground and rapes haven’t gone through the roof, and all the other things that are supposed to happen if herb gets legalized.)
Thanks -
I figured out what ‘herb’ was, but I didn’t take it that one step farther…

The guys on ESPN
Kiper and Tom Jackson looked madder then hell…I think Kiper’s mock draft was in the process of unraveling at the time, and the Tebow pick brought his house of cards down.
by BlackandGoldSSgt on Apr 22, 2010 11:49 PM EDT reply actions
If you try to find old Kiper mocks on the web
You can never find them. His mocks are pretty inaccurate and I think ESPN takes them down to maintain his credibility.

I thought it interesting that Gruden was the only one to give Tebow any chance, the rest of the talking heads looked like Denver has caused Hell to freeze over, only time will tell how well TT will do in the NFL.
5 words you may never hear.."Bungals win the Super Bowl"
first thought is to laugh at clausen
second, mcdaniels has always bragged about being able to transform qb’s into greatness. he probably liked tebow’s character and athletic ability and felt he’d be able to turn him into an nfl caliber QB 2-3 years down the road
i agree. i think mcdaniels thinks far too highly of himself for his own good
i agreed with the cutler trade (i thought cutler was acting like the organization should cater to him) & they got a lot from it. i understand and thought they did the best they could with the marshall trade. but all that trading around really hurt them value wise in the draft.
until they prove they arent ryan leaf i could care less.
but …broncos….you are going to be in the nfl basement for a very long time

Here are my thoughts....
1. Is Tebow going to start this year? NO
2. Kyle Orton…..more than likely the starting quarterback for the Broncos in 2010….and the THIRD highest paid qb on the team behind Quinn and Tebow……wonder how that feels? “Yea…..Kyle….we need YOU to actually quarterback this team….but….we’re going to pay these two chumps holding clipboards more money than we pay you……do you have a problem with that?”
3. Tebow doesn’t even look natural at all throwing the football……I just don’t understand on a team that NEEDS players to play now…..WHY would you pick a LONGSHOT developmental prospect in the FIRST ROUND??? I don’t get it.

Makes me curious- what is the fan turn out at Denver stadium?
Do they sell out every game? Did they sort of need more marquee names to bring in a religious crowd that wouldn’t ordinarily attend games?
I think you're off-base there -
I think the stadium is largely sold to season ticket holders – in fact, there was a lot of moaning in the Denver press after our game there last fall that there were so many Steeler fans there, which meant that season ticket holders were selling their tickets. Some people at least wanted to require that season ticket holders only be allowed to sell to Bronco fans. Which of course is dumb, but implies that there are already more than enough people willing to go to games if they don’t have to pay inflated prices.

Here are my thoughts on your thoughts.
1. Agree
2. Holy crap I didn’t even realize that. That right there is hilarious. Maybe there’s some hidden incentive like he gets a free case of Jack McDaniels every time he wins a game.
3. Because I truly believe that Josh McDumbass is single-handedly erasing that team. He’s starting from scratch so he can build his own team. That way if he wins a SB he can stick it to Bill Belichick. “I didn’t take Shanahan’s team Bill. I did it all myself!”

I think they could have gotten him in the 2nd with pick 45
I am fine with Tebow going to Denver, he will have 1-2 years of backing up Orton andthen play. If this is the guy you want to be your QB of the future, that is fine.
but I do not think anyone would draft him before Clausen and he woul dbe left in the 2nd round. Of course they did grab a WR earlier in the round
I really LOLed when they picked him
I don’t think any of the QBs from this draft will amount to much. Possibly Clausen will have some success, depending on where he goes. But, I think picking Tebow in the first is a joke. He cannot contribute in the near future and you coulda gotten him in the 2nd or 3rd. I think I am going to mosey over to MHR and see how they all felt about it.

I used to think McDaniels knew what he is doing, but this pick
has left me scratching my head.
I don’t see Tebow as a first round taelnt at the pro level, I thought his true value was somewhere in the first half of the third round.
I think the Denver FO and their fans are going to regret this choice.
I agree there
I loved everything McD did last year with Denver. But this was a bad first round for them.
They also grabbed that WR who was projected to fall deep into the 2nd or 3rd. I think he was not even int he top 5 WRs, but he went 1st WR. At least Heyward-Bey was projected as the 3rd or 4th best in his class.

My favorite comment of the night...
Was when they quoted McDaniels as saying he took him because he reminded him of Brandon Marshall… who he had… and traded away… a week ago. Odviously he knew he did that, but seriously? Even the announcers were like, what the heck did he say?

dez bryant, tate, and benn on the board.
and he’s going to go in the first. I knew Bryant would slip to the Steelers, I just wish they would have taken him :(
Well, in a couple of years
MdDaniels is either going to look like a genius, or he’s going to be looking for a job. In the meantime, I’m suddenly much more interested to see what happens with the Broncos. Didn’t somebody once say that the definition of stupidity is doing the same things and expecting a different result? Admittedly, doing something different doesn’t necessarily mean that it is de facto smart – it might be even stupider. But at least it was different…

Two things about this Tebow nonsense...
I think it’s slightly ridiculous that Bradford gets taken number one overall and I don’t see an interview or hear anything from him, but some QB that was reached for at the 25h pick had an ESPN correspondent pop up in his house seconds after being picked, who then proceeded to interview him and ask him the most generic questions and Tebow spouted the most generic answers — at least the kid knows how to feed BS in an interview. I can see him years from now, still throwing worse than Lord Byron, and just calmly going up to the press stand after the game. “Well, I’m really working on my throwing motion. It’ll take dedication, heart, and whatever else I can give it and I know coach McDaniels will see it this week in practice.” you think, Tim?
The “it only takes one team to like you” idea really doesn’t seem that correct, logically. If it only took one team to like you, and the team that likes you knows they are the only team in this scenario that does indeed like you, they could easily wait until the last pick in their draft to choose you, even if you are a first round talent. The fact that multiple teams want you drives up your “value” that is created on draft day and thats what produces first round picks… first round picks aren’t usually created by one team wanting someone, unless its one Josh Mcdaniels
Like it or not,
Tim Tebow was one of the big stories of this draft. It was almost a certainty that Sam Bradford would go at #1. What’s he going to say that he didn’t already say in his little chat with Deion? Tim Tebow could have gone anywhere from the first pick of the draft (the Rams would have been nuts, but there you are) to going undrafted (even more improbable, but I suppose possible.) And because of all of the publicity about him, positive and negative, he has huge name recognition. The draft got moved to prime time to attract viewers, and part of the reason for casual fans to watch is going to be the ‘story lines’ that they know about. At least that’s what I’m guessing…

I'd argue that Bradford was just as big of a story line
With all the shoulder injuries and not playing his entire senior year. However, you are right, what else could he say that he didn’t already say earlier?

Tebow
it can be argued, and rather easily I might add, that he is one of if not the best to ever play at the college level. Unconventional throwing motion? Spread offense? Who cares, tell that to Phillip Rivers. Tebow is legit first round talent and his character and dedication are beyond reproach. I’m not a fan, but he shows all the signs of being a pro, and a big one. Of that, there’s no doubt.
I really think Bradford is a super duper flop. But even if he isn’t, he’s a Ram. Enough Said.
by Vinz Clortho on Apr 23, 2010 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions
I would say he shows the signs of being a leader, but not being a pro. Talent is what gets you places. Manning and Brees are not good QBs because they have character. They are great because they can throw a football like Charlie Daniels can play the fiddle.

I completely agree with your distinction between talent and leadership
Tebow has a boatload of one, and not so much of the other.
At least we won't need clark if we play in denver
I don’t know what tt will do but living in Austin TX I do know this: For the last few years all the longhorn fans have looked at the schedule and circled the outdoor northern games and prayed for the cold and snow to wait. Colt has been a great college qb but if he goes to a team in the north he will beg for alot of dome games. It is true of alot of UT offensive players( see Limus Sweed). as far as what will happen to Jimmy the golden domer…so another leprechaun in cleveland to munch on for the Steeler linebackers huh?
I was surprised
Everything I had heard about Tebow suggested that, because of his throwing motion, he was not destined to be a franchise QB in the NFL. I guess we will see if he is the second Phillip Rivers in a couple of years.
How do I break it to the cat that since he has been declawed, the rabbit he sees in our backyard would kick his sorry butt?

It's difficult to change something
that is as ingrained into your muscle memory as a throwing motion, but not impossible if you are sufficiently motivated. Music students begin college all the time, only to have their teacher tell them that their technique sucks and they have to start from scratch. Most kids make even a major change in bow motion, embouchure, or other things that are just as ingrained as a throwing motion in somewhere between 6 months and 2 years. You just have to be determined enough. I think he is. That still doesn’t mean that he will be an elite QB, but in a system where he won’t be expected to have to play (at least QB) while he is making the change, I think he has quite a decent chance. Had he gone to, say, Buffalo or Oakland, he would have been doomed…
