Morality and the Draft.....C'mon! (thanks shleeve)

Now it's been well documented I am not a Ben supporter anymore. I am however a Steeler fan, so I'm stuck. Root for a my team that employs a guy that has let me/us down time and again. Or pick a bench rider to root for. I like what the Steelers have done so far this year in the draft......but to draft "character" as some have contended is ludicrous. Character and Pig Ben are totally different conversations. The Steelers are the only team in the NFL without cheerleaders. (Does that mean Character and Standards?) Pig Ben is the only active NFL QB with sexual misconduct accusations arising more often than a teenagers acne with a chocolate addiction. You can’t draft character. You can hope that these athletes have learned restraint and common sense throughout their careers. And if they haven’t you get stuck with a Ben. The Rooneys have shown that they value talent in a player as well as a moral compass. Thats why they didn’t take Marino. They respected his talent but the rumors of his off the field BS at the time was too much. According to the press he was into “street” drugs. Pot. So they passed on him. Oooops. That was not a mistake to the B&G. Had the rumors been true, than what? The Steelers have been consistant and predictable, the problem is their picks haven’t. Suck it up and realize that the Steelers, OUR STEELERS, give a sh!). A “character draft” is a farse. A quality draft is a dream. A practical draft is real. They attempt drafting character. They want a poster boy. And they end up with a deviant. Shoot and miss. Thanks for the try. Good luck elsewhere....Come on 7!!!!!(Ironic isn't it? I meant a dice roll, not Ben)  And so it goes. Ben has the opportunity to recognize his problems, address them, and conquer them. I wish him well. I am a STEELER fan and will be forever. QB's will come and go, Ben will retire soon and the next chapter will begin. But the damage is done. Thanks Ben. And heres to a "CHARACTER" draft.

Heres a thought..........Read this. Thanks Born and God Bless.

Absolutely True

I’m probably not the only guy here who can say that I think I’m a person of good character and strong moral fiber. I’m respectful to women (and men for that matter,) I donate time & money to various charities, I help old ladies cross the street, etc. Yet I have spent 24hrs in jail on two occasions in my life for stupid, foolish misdemeanors. I can’t even remember how much I had to drink on both occasions. My only thought to myself while standing in front of the judge the next day, charges being read to me with a terrible headache, was “God, I’m so glad that I didn’t do anything WORSE than that!”

It is easy to understand how a guy who was labeled a “good” character can find himself being a rich, drunken ass-hole.
