Alan Faneca - To bring back or not to?
Now that the Jets have cut Alan Faneca, do you think the we should bring him back and let him join the reunion? Yeah he's probably on the downward slope of his career but, he could be a great mentor to the younger guys on the line. Plus Zeirlein is no longer with the team (which I remember right, Faneca didn't like him), so he could be for the o-line what Bettis was for the Rbs before he retired. Discuss.

Eh, I think he's past his prime
I’m sayin’ no. This would be a good post for a simple poll.

Probably not
Where to put him? He’s clearly lost a bit in the last two seasons, and I don’t see a place for him
Kemoeatu has started to shine
Pouncey may well be injected from day one
Urbik too on the roster
I think bringing him back would hurt our long term goals to be honest
Without me, youre only you

we’ve got a very young line right now. and a lot of people who are gunna be competing for playing time. the way our line looks right now is LT starks, LG kemo, C hartwig, RG pouncey, RT colon. he’d have to take a starting spot away from kemo or pouncey which wont happen. bringing him back would hurt their development in the long run

How do I break it to the cat that since he has been declawed, the rabbit he sees in our backyard would kick his sorry butt?

can Pouncey start at center this year and have Urbik/foster compete for RG?
That would be the best fit..

Probably not
as mentioned somehere by someone, the C is the leader of the O-line and it’s hard for a rookie to be that player. Throw him in at RG, let him grow into the group, and let him take over next year.
I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.
We just dumped a problem WR just so we could draft another?
He Was A Revolving Door
in pass protection his last year here and has clearly lost something since then. One of the greatest G’s in Steelers history I wish Alan Faneca well. Time to get on with your life’s work. See you in Canton 66!

I saw no
Tomlin said they like “the nucleus of guys” they have at the position when asked about Faneca. I do not imagine they will be bringing him back. Granted, I never thought they would have brought ARE back. I’d say its a 10% chance or less.

Where are all the people who were screaming
When the Steelers didn’t resign Faneca? As usual the FO did the right thing. He was 32 and not worth the $10M plus he wanted. The Jets found that out…..
I wouldn't have minded keeping Faneca
for two more years at, say, $7M per year. He would have been a lot better than Simmons/Stapleton/Essex/Foster were during that period. I think Faneca would have been happier if he stayed with the Steelers, won another Super Bowl, and could retire with dignity. Of course, I can’t blame him for taking the stupid money that the Jets threw at him.
+1
I made a calculation a year ago of the salary offered to Simmons and Mahan and we could have matched the Jets’ offer by simply not giving those guys contracts and keeping Okobi for the remainder of his contract instead. Now Okobi was nothing special, probably on a level with Mahan, but we could have signed Hartwig the next year and Faneca would have been better than Simmons/Stapleton/Essex in the meantime. So no, the staff and management did not exactly shine in this case, but we probably would have ended up releasing him as well since he’s clearly lost a step. I think those three years we managed our Oline rather poorly, but the past is the past.
Next up : Rooney family facing RICO charges. Franchise sold to Disney who appoints Hannah Montana as GM and moves the team to L.A. The team is to be called The Glitters.
Why can’t hestart at RG and have Pouncey play C? Keeps Hartwig off the field, and gets a talented lineman who can help teach our young guys the ropes
Why would we keep Hartwig off the field?
Unless Pouncey just blows everybody away at camp, Hartwig is going to start. He is in year 2 of a 4 year extension, so it makes sense to bring Pouncey along slowly until he is ready. We’re not paying Hartwig to sit the bench.

Hartwig will start the year at C
but Pouncey will move in if 1) Hartwig is injuried’ 2) the season goes south and might as well give him some experience at center this year since he will be the starting center next year; 3) one of the guards steps up and is better at G than Hartwig is at C; and the 2011 season starts.
Faneca was a great LG, but he and Tomlin agreed to disagree. The bridge was torched. The Steelers agreed to let him go as long as he kept his mouth closed during his final season. Part of the problem as I remember was that he thought coach Z was an idiot. Which we all know he was. But Tomlin could not keep him and have him undermine the coaching staff. He will sign with the Bears and hang on for a year. He was a pro-bowl selection last year based on reputation alone. The same way Odgood and Pace were named when they were washed up. He was ok last year, but not his dominating self. I would hope he would hang it up so that he can be remembered as one of the best ever.

No
He trash talked on his way out. That’s not how buisnes gets done here. Open your yap, hit the bricks. All of the younger talent that needs genuine playing time to develop, you’d b crazy to take away one of those spots for this guy. Maybe theres room for him in Arizona(Steelers west).
Faneca
Once again was probed that a player that left the Steelers because of the money then didn’t have the chance to improve what did with Steelers except of course Plaxico
I don’t know if brings Faneca again will be the best option for this team because the reasons he left Steelers.
I would prefer this team develops the current players instead of bringing the ones that past his prime alreadhy.
Steeler forever
according to espn the jets are still paying him 5.25 million. Steelers should be able to pick him at a lower price. He’d more than likely have to accept a diminished role though, and I don’t know if he’d be willing to do that
No need for Faneca
With the people on our roster and the rookies, we have a lot of depth at guard. The competition in training camp will be fierce.

I'll pass...
Loved 66 in black and gold, but didn’t like the way he left. I doubt he’d come back anyway.
I bet a certain speedy (some would say Fast) back is lobbying hard for his new team to bring in the lineman he followed to a majority of his success in the Burgh.

i think i'm just repeating everyone's sentiment above by saying no thanks
his ego is a little bigger than his talent. not sure, but it’s not very often a steeler publicly askes to be released. i think foote asked in private, which is the way to handle it. we have plenty of depth, too
so i did a lil research
faneca had about a $7.5 million salary that he was cut over. BUT $5.25 mil of that was guaranteed. so since the 5.25 million was a sunk cost, he was considered too expensive to be a $2.25 million backup. very interesting
if he comes back
but at TE..I’d consider it
