I'm glad Ben was suspended
Yes, that's right. I'm a Steelers fan and I'm glad that Ben was suspended.
Don't get me wrong, I would rather he was a squeaky clean choir boy who never did anything wrong. I would rather he was playing QB for the whole season. I also think that the suspension was too harsh but............I really think he needed to get "put in his place" so to speak.
Leaving his legal (non)issues aside, it had become clear that Ben was reveling in the "Big Ben" persona. His over-inflated ego carried over to the field as well. He tried to be a hero too many times, when being prudent was the right move. We all love his playmaking ability, and no one wants to take that away but there is a time for that, and a time for taking what a defense gives (or doesnt give) you.
Besides that, I was getting tired of seeing him show up every year heavier than the last. To me, this was the worst part of it. You're a 100 million $ young QB. I don't care how many rings you have, put the work in and get yourself in top shape like the rest of your teammates. Its disrespectful to the team and the fans. Also, if he's not staying in shape, what are the chances that he is doing the extra things like studying game film? Not good.
Now, this is not a Ben bashing post. I am here to say that I think we are going to see the best Ben yet. I think this smack down was exactly what he needed to get grounded again. He needs to prove himself again and that is a good thing.
Between his immense talent and a recommitment to the game, the sky is the limit. He won't lose the confidence or swagger that he will still need to be great, there is no getting rid of that. But if he has got his head on straight, it will be used for good (football), not evil (drunk college girls).

ok....
I did that. Is my post too short? If so, how long does it need to be? I think people start to tune out if it is too long. And I know Ben is an old topic, but I was thinking (maybe I’m giving myself too much credit) that this was a different viewpoint than usual on the topic of Ben’s issues.

Nah
They were referring to the beating the dead horse posts. I wouldn’t sweat it. It is true though, there was nearly very literally 800 million Ben posts this offseason so it gets awfully touchy around here.

He might be a scumbag, but he is a HELLUVA quarterback. I think everybody on this site remembers what it was like having an average QB coming up short all the time.

As opposing quarterbacks crouched under center, Lambert pumped his legs up and down, thumping the turf like a war drum. He mouthed threats to opposing running backs that would make even the most hardened Catholic nun weep for humanity. He fulfilled those threats with coldblooded suplex tackles. Him getting in trouble isnt exactly the best thing that couldve happened, but i think it does knock him down off that pedestal he thought he was on. Now i hope he’ll decide that maybe partying as much as he has isnt the best thing to do and re-committ himself to taking better care of himself. He does look a whole lot slimmer then he has the past couple training camps thats for sure.

If someone is suspended because they “tarnished” the image of the NFL, then that should spread to all “tarnishing” behaviors, especially when there are actual charges that are filed and evidence to corroborate those charges.

I know everyones bored with Ben talk but......
There is a very telling article about him in the NY Times. Interviews with ex-girlfriends, ex-teammates, childhood friends.
It seems to me that Ben’s total focus on athletics as a young man caused him to miss out on the “fun”, and he’s been doing a little catching up. Makes perfect sense. He’s still got some growing up to do. I know I did when I was 28 too. I think his focus returns this year.

thanks for the link!
that is one screwed up story… I am kinda sad by the abrupt way its ending, could have connected it a little more to the present I think. But then again, what about his recent behavior hasn’t been reported?
Well, let’s hope that he has learned from his past behavior. He is a great quarterback, and he at least shows remorse, so let’s hope he means it and is as ready to be a part of the team again as we are ready for it.
Looks like Benson is not going to be suspended

Oh snap!
Chris Andersen could be in a porno with his 'stache. Too bad he still wouldn't know how to box out.
Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy.

thought about that after posted it
I think it would not be so bad if there was an explanation for the differences instead of letting everyone make their own assumptions/conclusions

Just to keep beating the rotting horse carcass..........
….and to pat myself on the back, a quote from Ben today——
“But to do something that the commissioner feels like he needed to discipline me over, I never thought the day would happen, and it is very painful for me to not be out there with my guys …. It is going to be so hard, and it is going to drive me to be the best that I have ever been. I have already been doing that this off-season. I am in the best shape that I have ever been in, and I know that I have four more weeks, five more weeks, who knows how long, but I am going to keep training and do whatever I can.”
This is what this post was all about in the first place. Go get em Ben.
