LaMarr Woodley, the Gentleman
With all the negativity around the NFL in the off season, it is nice to see that Woodley has his head in the right place, not worrying about paychecks and skipping drills. Woodley is a class act, and I hope the FO works hard at extending this man's contract.

This just upped my man crush 10 points
If he is not resigned I will be really upset.
"I'm from Maryland, and no one can beat me!"
He and Ike are both looking for big pay days. If I had to chose who to keep and who to let go I’m keeping Wood and letting go of Taylor. As much as it pains me to say.

It does not pain me to say
Woodley over Ike. Youth prevails. With any luck, the Steelers manage to keep ’em both but I keep LaMarr and its not even close.

also
with holmes and Colon not up for extensions anymore we have a lot more free money to spend on Woodley. Seems to me to be a done deal (just waiting for the CBA to get figured out.)

Colon contract
Obviously this is all guess-work based on no CBA after this season. Assuming the current system was extended, does this year count as Colon’s 4th even though he didn’t play, or , at season’s end is he still a 3 year RFA guy looking at a tender-offer?

Also
IMWO, a corner is much easier to plug into a 3-4 than it is to find a beast like LaMarr to rush from the OLB position. Steelers seem to excel at it. Still, when the 3-4 is firing on all cylinders, the pressure brought on the QB makes the CBs the least critical of all positions on the field.

But,
since we didn’t address the CB position with an early pick, it will be hard to find a good corner like Ike in the Free Agent Market. We’ll see how it pans out.

Maybe
they plan on standing pat with the CBs they got, if they do well this season I can see K. Lewis taking the #1 spot if he shows him self approved. If they need to address it in next draft they can. But remember Ike himself wasn’t a high draft pick its possible someone steps up and takes his spot.

Agreed
I think the Steelers’ young CB’s may surprise many of us in a good way this season.

And let's not forget about this Butler kid
Also, I have read in a couple of places that next’s years draft has some depth at Corner.

"Steelers Rule You!" - Me
I'm not sure how we're going to get done
but we sure as hell are gonna resign Woodley.
I’m gonna wait until its happened, but he is my next Steeler jersey.
I wanted one for christmas
The white Super Bowl Jersey. It reminded me of the uneasy feeling in my gut. Ben had just hit Santonio for the TD. Kurt Warner had time to get down field for some magic. But the relentlessness of Woodley was too much for the Cardinals. Lamarr buried them and I got drunk. The greatest type of drunk ever. I’m ordering that jersey the day he’s resigned.

Had a hunch during his rookie season
and bought a signed home Woodley jersey. My favorite Steeler after Hines. A true Steeler. One for the ages.
He is the hottest man in the NFL
If we lose this class act, I will not watch football for a year. He has to go to the
hall of fame as a Steeler; he just has to. I just love being a female NFL fan!
so you are saying its not terrance cody

Woodley is "le man"
it is fun to see him play, and he usually is acting like a big kid in all the vids that I see him in. There is no doubt that the steelers will sign him again. He’ll get the money that he’s owed.

Woodley is a Solid Cat
I was fortunate to meet LaMarr at a signing during the 2008 Playoffs. I gave him a painted miniature, I am a nerd so it’s what I do. He dug it as the photos show. Other cats I’ve given miniatures to looked at me like I was nuts, politely of course.

Yes, of he.
I’ve painted miniatures for 4 years, it’s a relaxing (nerd) hobby. I’ve got a nice collection of signed displays. Been meaning to post pictures just haven’t got around to it.

Pretty cool
Looking forward to seeing them, hopefully a bit closer up haha.

Obviously here's hoping that there's a 2011 season
But someone has to think to include a provision to allow teams to reasonably re-sign players in Woodley’s position. Hopefully he’s a major part of the future for Pittsburgh.
by TheSpatulaMessiah on Jul 7, 2010 8:14 AM EDT reply actions
agreed
That 30% rule really hinders re-signing 2nd round picks who originally get a little bonus then a cheap contract. Good thing for Willie Colon he wasn’t drafted in round 2, he’d be making $2M less this year with no guarantee of ever scoring another NFL contract.

Great pick me up article.
I knew he was a good player. I didn’t know he was a great guy. Woodley is a man.

LaMarr is staying with Pittsburgh
No way the Steelers let him go. No way in hell.

We were only 1 stupid play away
from Hell, one stupid play. Joe Burnett comes up with that pick against the Raiders and we walk right into the playoffs…
Heck. To the choir I preach…

Exactly
which is why I don’t think people can be to upset with Tomlin. He can’t make Burnett catch that ball. As you say he catches that rock and falls down, its game over and we’re talking about how Ben was able to ward off Oakland’s feverish attacks to win that game, we win up 10-6 and in the playoffs laughing at baltimore. I still don’t think we get far unless Troy could play in the playoffs but this off season won’t feel so bad.

WORD
A crummy season with at least a peek in the playoffs wouldn’t have weighed so heavily on our offseason fan-crowns.
To do a dull thing with style-now that's what I call art.
-Charles Bukowski
It is what it is
You only “would have beaten [bad team] except for one play” if you kinda suck. Burnett was one of many missed opportunities, but to blame him singlehandedly for costing PIT a playoff spot is ridiculous. When you give up three consecutive down-the-field TD drives to the MF’ing Oakland Raiders (followed by scoring 6 points against the Browns), there is a fundamental problem with the team.that goes beyond any individual player.
I’m glad they were able to rebound. When the Steelers were 6-7, I was really hoping they could get things together enough to make it 9-7, and they did. This is a team that can bounce back, to some degree, and knows how to win, to some degree.

Never knew the off-field details
Now that I do, just makes me an even bigger fan. The 30% rule that affects him now makes re-signing LaMarr at an amount = his value a very difficult proposition. I hope Omar Khan & the FO can get inventive and fast. If he hits the open market, he’s going to be offered Silverback $$ for sure…

As the saying goes, weight(in this case Wait) broke the wagon. The organization is going to keep dragging its feet and this one will get away also. Just you wait and see!
