Non-Football: From Black to Gold - The Review

While discussing how to best get a copy of maryrose's book "From Black to Gold" to me over here in England. The idea came to me to create a "review" fanpost for it a few weeks after it's release to allow people to discuss it on the site where MR is probably best known.

So first off a few thoughts from me, then I leave the comments open to you guys to discuss and rate the book yourselves.

So, my thoughts.

  • First off, let me say this. I have read a fair few books about our beloved team and indeed the entire NFL. This jumped straight to the top. I love the sense of history and reverence that it gave to the old days, the "Black" days.
  • Personal highlights for me were, the stories of the Rooney family's compassion for their players a la Gabe Rivera when he got injured in 1984 and the story of how Art fought to keep Rocky Bleier on the team after his war injury.
  • Another highlight was the comparisons between Ben and Terry, I had never really thought of them as too similar but upon reflection the similarities are striking.

I'm going to keep this short because quite frankly I am horrible at reviewing things, I just thought that it would be an idea to get this done so Tim can see how much we appreciate his work.
