8/12 Training Camp Photo Journal
I'm on pilgrimage to the 'Burgh, so of course I went with momma rollett to training camp. I didn't really try to draw a lot of conclusions about what I saw, since only the coaches know what they're looking for. Instead, I just enjoyed taking in the scene, watching the players, and taking lots of pictures. So, lots of photos after the jump, hope you enjoy them, and that they give those who can't come a feel for the atmosphere at Latrobe.
It's true, Mike Tomlin really does wear long sleeves and pants, all black.
First, I'll just get the boilerplate out of the way - I hold the copyright on all pictures, please don't re-use without my permission.
Isaiah Williams and Antonio Brown.
Flozell Adams coming off the sled.
Sean Kugler instructing a lineman. (don't remember who)
David Johnson takes a breather.
Heath Miller and Sean McHugh taking a water break.
Troy Polamalu grabs a ball during defensive back drills.
Antwaan Randle-El and Scottie Montgomery (I believe) sharing a word.
Byron Leftwich and Stefan Logan playing catch.
Lawrence Timmons elevates.
Mike Tomlin looks on for backs on backers - I believe this is Sean McHugh vs. Patrick Bailey.
The defensive lineman did drills right in front of me - here are Casey Hampton and Ra'Shon Harris.
Aaron Smith spent several minutes instructing Ziggy Hood.
After the lecture, it was time to strap on the helmets...
and do the practicum.
Meanwhile, Keyaron Fox grabs a pass.
After the drills were done, John Mitchell came over and asked if we spectators wanted a picture of the whole line.
Naturally, we did!
I don't know if Doug Worthington will catch on or not, but he sure looks like a tough customer.
Then, it was time for 11 on 11. Here's Tyler Grisham running after a catch.
Here's a familiar sight - Ben Roethlisberger running for his life. The pursuer is Thaddeus Gibson.
This snap went better - Ben throws a pass as Coach T looks on.
Troy, wandering around before the snap.
Can you spot the Hall of Famer?
Isaiah Williams hauled one in.
Dennis Dixon after the pass - not sure if he ran into Justin Vincent here or what.
Hines Ward had the day off - here he is with coach.
Troy reacts.
Chris Kemoeatu is a very large man with very large hair.
Dixon looks to pass - his legs look even skinnier in real life, somehow. He's still far too quick to try and run, even in camp when he's not going to get planted.
Jeff Reed and Daniel Sepulveda - I have no idea how kickers get the reputation of being clowns.
Randle El practicing fielding punts.
Sepulveda booms one. He was skying punts all day, and I didn't see a bad one.
Emmanuel Sanders and Mike Wallace share a few words.
I'm pretty sure that this was Dwayne Wright going to the ground to make a catch.
Will Allen and Keenan Lewis.
The chaos after the snap.
Stefan Logan - dude has crazy calves.
Ben takes a snap from Doug "the Big" Legursky.
Heath, with room to run.
Willie Colon, complete with boot.
Life in the trenches.
Quite a few players came to the fence to sign autographs after practice. Here's Big Snack.
I had a short but fun conversation with Keyaron Fox - told him I'd just seen a replay of his INT return against Minnesota on nfl.com, and he said "Oh man, I can't get enough of that!". I asked if he had another couple in him for this season, and he said that he sure hoped so.
I hope anyone that made it all the way down here enjoyed the pics!

rec'd for momma but mostly for the photos
How do I break it to the cat that since he has been declawed, the rabbit he sees in our backyard would kick his sorry butt?

Willie in the boot
makes me sick. Does Flozell look like he is in any reasonable shape?

Flozell's nickname is "The Hotel"
so somehow I doubt he is a small man

there's a pic of Flozell near the top
he’s looking pretty trim imo

Yeah,
I saw that and he does look trim. I’m just wondering more about conditioning than weight. There have been periods in my life where I was trim, yet could suck wind after a couple of flights of stairs.

No, I can't spot the hall of famer
I don’t see Redman anywhere in that photo…
As opposing quarterbacks crouched under center, Lambert pumped his legs up and down, thumping the turf like a war drum. He mouthed threats to opposing running backs that would make even the most hardened Catholic nun weep for humanity. He fulfilled those threats with coldblooded suplex tackles. He may or may not have chain-smoked at halftime, depending on who you ask.
For sixty minutes each Sunday, Jack Lambert was a demon.
lol

Ha!
I spent 2 minutes looking for Redman before I finally realize acrollet was talking about Lebeau.

he doesn't have the redman filter
it slows down time to make sure you can get a picture of him

Great picks AC...
Rec’d… good stuff, thanks.
Ambition is like a frog sitting on a Venus Flytrap. The flytrap can bite and bite, but it won't bother the frog because it only has little tiny plant teeth. But some other stuff could happen and it could be like ambition.

What sort of camera and lens did you have?
Some of those shots looked like you had a good 300m lens on.
I used a Pentax k-x with an old Tokina 70-210mm lens. Since the camera is APS-C, 210 is equivalent to a bit over 300mm with the crop factor. good eye :)

Nice camera.
Have you tried its HDR feature? I wonder if its just an autobracket program set. (all HDR really is)
I’m still using a d200 with primarily just an 18-200 lens. I shoot everywhere I go, and hope to make it to Latrobe in the summer one of these years. I do night shots mostly though.
love the k-x
I’ve tried the hdr once or twice and it seems to work fine, but I don’t have a lot of use for it. kinda gimmicky IMO. I had fun shooting, you should definitely try and make it to camp next year :)
