Around SBN: Why Hockey Fans Should Root For Devils Vs. Kings

I didn't know that NFL.com has separate stats page for rating the offensive lines. Take a look. It's worth checking out every week. Currently our beloved Steelers are ranked 26th overall.

sacks

Looks like that’s sorted by sacks allowed. Change that to QB hits we are 14th. Who knows what the real barometer should be.

"Who is Joe Namath? This is a guy who, if he played in the league today, I'd probably just go hit him late and see what he did, just for the hell of it. Joe Namath can go to hell; he can kiss my ass." - Greg Lloyd, after NBC commentator Joe Namath accused Lloyd of playing dirty.

Huh

That’s pretty neat. FO does a more “advanced” OL thing, but I think it uses the same numbers (from the play by play transcript). It’s nice to see the nuts and bolts of that here.

They need to include the number of attempts for it to make any sense, though. Saying we had one negative rush right means something different if we ran right on 2 or 12 plays.

Anyways, this is VERY useful information for grading line play, and it’s pretty simple database work to get it from what they already had. One game probably doesn’t mean a lot, but they retroactively ran the numbers for previous years, so you can see 16 games rolled up. Very cool. Maybe I’ll do a post on the quality of our line play over time at some point.

oops

n/m the stats only go back to 2009. Too bad, I would have liked to see what they did since 2004.

Steeler's Lounge does the best break down of OL I have seen

Unfortunately, they only do it for the Steelers. Here it is for the Falcons. They watch every OL on every play and give them a “good” or “bad”. Pouncey had a 95% success rate on 60 plays, Essex had 92%, Starks 90, Kemo 88, Flozell 77.

92% sounds pretty good

for a guy we all want replaced.

How do I break it to the cat that since he has been declawed, the rabbit he sees in our backyard would kick his sorry butt?
