Calm Down

Those were my exact words as my sons (2) and I watched Larry Fitzgerald go 60 plus yards to put the Cardinals up late in the 4th Quarter of the SB 43.  I'm now stating the same as we go into this season.  We have played very vanilla with a couple of CB blitzs by Ike and have just laid on the other team.

I'm fully confident in the following:

*  Our D will shut our 1st four opponents down, including the Purple Browns with their new look offense

*  By trial and error we will find a decent QB from Leftwich and Dixon, I feel sorry that Batch wasn't included, but you can't count on Charlie and his penchant for injury

*  We will average between 17 and 24 points per game

*  Mendenhall and/or Redman will give us some punch in the running game

*  Our offensive line (save Essex) will perform well.

So my beloved brethen of Steeler Nation, calm down as we "Put foot to butt" in the 1st 4 games w/o Big Ben.

week 4, if you say it enough times it will come true… lol

Steelers football is supposed to be 60 mins, recently it's been 45. The additional 15 are currently under construction.

Charlie's penchant for injury...

is not particularly more than any other backup QB his age, me believes. After considering Dixon’s dropoff, and Lefty’s limitations, I’m close to considering jumping on Charlie’s bandwagon for at least a start.
And our OL’s got at least another worrisome spot, at RT. Flo gets away with a lot of borderline false starts, and I’m not so sure he’ll get the same benefit of the doubt from regular season officiating, respectable vet or not. It’s already tough enough to change a tackle’s mindset from a left to a right, try doing it after a dozen years have ingrained it into ya.
But other than that, I’m calm. I’m hoping for a 3-1 start, and would settle for a 2-2.

Counterpoint:

PANIC! (I’m just kidding)

I bet a fun thing would be to go way back in time to where there was going to be an eclipse and tell the cave men, "If I have come to destroy you, may the sun be blotted out from the sky." Just then the eclipse would start, and they'd probably try to kill you or something, but then you could explain about the rotation of the moon and all, and everyone would get a good laugh.

I recommend this for Comment of the Week.

I also recommend we begin awarding a Comment of the Week.

Still calm, but I have one concern:
Mendenhall and/or Redman will give us some punch in the running game

The concern is whether or not BA actually calls for them to finish off drives late in games (read: finish games). That is something we have been lacking during BA’s tenure as OC. If I knew this were to happen, I could even lower my blood pressure.

I put no stock in preseason games

Matt Williamson said that over the past 5 years, the Indianapolis Colts have lost more preseason games than regular season games. That’s quite the eye-opening stat. They obviously don’t take it that seriously. The only time I panic or become a little uneasy in preseason is after an injury like last night’s.
