Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Pre-game fun

Hey Everyone -

I'm from So Cal and going to my first Steeler game this December!! It's the December 12th game against the Bengals. I was hoping smeone could give me some info about tailgating at Heinz field, or where people go before the game. Can you bring beer in the parking lot? Do the police care about alcohol? Is it fairly tame (relative to Raiders fans I guess)? Or do fans hang out at nearby bars beforehand?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

go early. Really early. The city gets swamped quick. Steeler fans will be everywhere, and do not go to the Casino before the game.

Steelers football is supposed to be 60 mins, recently it's been 45. The additional 15 are currently under construction.

Alcohol

Bring lots. Police don’t care as long as you’re not an a-hole. And of course you can’t bring it into the stadium.

Tailgates are all over the place. It is a very contained area and there are many bars on the outskirts of the parking lot/tailgate area.

Are you actually parking in the lot or taking a cab/ferry down? If you have your own tailgate, then your set. If you plan to try and crash a tailgate, bring a bottle of something and a smile (for you, a simple smile may gain you access).

The atmosphere is super friendly. Even the Bengals fans don’t have to fear for their lives. Pittsburgh and its fans are a really awesome bunch.

Also, Socal, dress warm. I’m talking layer up. December in Pittsburgh can be frighteningly cold. Hats, gloves and maybe a scarf are mandatory. Lined boots with thick socks (perhaps two pair). If you layer up and by some odd chance its 50 degrees, well, at least you were prepared. If you choose to ignore this and its 18 degrees and windy/snowy, you will have a miserable experience.

if you were a real man you would wear shorts and a tennis shoes

to go along with the thick jacket, hat and ear muffs, steeler ones of course even if they have the logo on both sides.

Players who should be in the Hall of Fame: Pat TIllman, Dwight White, Donnie Shell, L.C. Greenwood, Ray Guy, Steve Tasker, Greg Llyod, Andy Russel, Cris Carter, Kevin Greene and Jerry Kramer
