Congratulations to our 3-0 Pittsburgh Steelers for having the best record in all of the NFL trough 3 games! Now there are 3 other teams that may finish the week undefeated: the Cheifs (who would have guessed), the winner of Bears/Packers, and (possibly) the Dolphins. So why do I claim that our record is better theirs?
My logic is as follows: All of the teams we have played have won both of their other games thus far. I just checked, and there are no other teams out there that have/can do that. After the jump is a breakdown of the schedules of the 5 undefeated teams that remain in the NFL as of 8:30 ET Sunday, along with what the strength of their competition thus far.
Steelers: Falcons (2-0) vs. Cardinals, Saints; Titans (2-0) vs. Raiders, Giants; Bucs (2-0) vs. Browns, Panthers Cheifs: Chargers (1-1) vs. Jaguars, Seahawks; Browns (0-2) vs. Bucs, Ravens; 49ers (0-2) vs. Seahawks, Saints Bears: Lions (0-2) vs. Eagles, Vikings; Cowboys (1-1) vs. Redskins, Texans; *Packers (2-0) vs. Eagles, Bills Packers: Eagles (1-1) vs. Lions, Jaguars; Bills (0-2) vs. Dolphins, Patriots; *Bears (2-0) vs. Lions, Cowboys Dolphins: Bills (0-2) vs. Dolphins, Patriots; Vikings (1-1) vs. Saints, Lions; *Jets (1-1) vs. Ravens, Patriots
* = game still to be played
The Steelers are the only team that is undefeated and has played against opponents that won both of their other games. Say what you want about the Bucs, but they actually put up the best effort I've seen against the 2010 Steelers D. On top of that, it is clear that the Falcons, who just beat the Super Bowl champion Saints, and the 2-1 Titans are legit playoff teams.
It'll be interesting to see the power rankings for this week. If the Steelers fall outside of the top 3, I'll be very surprised. If they are in the top 3, look for another post on how underrated the Steelers were this preseason.
I also want to say hello to the BTSC community, as I've been a reader since early in the 2008 season making my first post. I really enjoy the community this site has become.
