Damn
I was really hopeful abt the 3 game suspension. Well, 4 games would suffice for me.

Darn you syrsteelerfan
lol I had mines up first.
Steelers football is supposed to be 60 mins, recently it's been 45. The additional 15 are currently under construction.
Beat me by 3 min, yep.
I don’t have permissions to promote to frontpage (just post) or I would have promoted it.

No surprise
We saw this coming for about a month or so now. If there were any chance (and there is not) of it being reduced to 3, it would be done after week 2 of the season.

Why
after week 2?

If he stays 'good' for a longer period of time
It gives more justification for Goodell to make the cut. Also, once the season is in full swing there is a lot of news going around and it won’t be a big deal. Also, that gives Ben at least a full week to practice with the team.

Also
He will have 2 weeks of practice. Nicely timed.

Everywhere Ratbird fans rejoice

No they don't rejoice.
Its like when we beat them without their biggest playmakers. Its just not the same. They want to beat us WITH BB behind the line, or they don’t get bragging rights. You can’t take pride when you beat up the JV team.
I don’t rejoice. If you noticed throughout the last few days, I was actually hoping he would be back for week 4. All the talk then to see him fold up like a lawn chair and you guys lose 45-3 would be amazing. Oh well, Dixon does throw a nice ball to be intercepted.
Like
that would ever happen.. you know good and well you didn’t want to see benny in week 4

I call
bull pucky on both of you. It doesn’t matter which QB you face as long as you make it into the playoffs.
You don’t see people mention the fact that the great 2000 ravens defense didn’t face one elite offense in route to the SB do you?

Titans weren't bad that year, really.
I bet a fun thing would be to go way back in time to where there was going to be an eclipse and tell the cave men, "If I have come to destroy you, may the sun be blotted out from the sky." Just then the eclipse would start, and they'd probably try to kill you or something, but then you could explain about the rotation of the moon and all, and everyone would get a good laugh.

Would he/could he appeal? That would really piss off Goodell. Not necessarily the suspension but maybe the severity of it…
He won't
not that it matters. If he doesn’t appeal some people see it as an admission of guilt. If he does appeal some people are going to see it as ‘He is still the same Big Ben’. It doesn’t matter what he does people want to paint him in the bad light that is what they are going to do.

yea, I agree he’s in a no win situation in terms of his brand… Thats why he needs to say F’it. I’m gonna fight this thing now… I think two or even 3 game he would be fine with but have to believe that the 4 games has him pretty pist off.
I have a feeling that he would win some ground if he appealed. Goodell has not demonstrated an ounce of consistency with regards to handing out punishments that would match bens…
He appeals it to Goodell
Judge, jury, executioner. It’s an absurd system. So, no. What would be the point? Why piss him off when he has full authority? Not to mention he wouldn’t (I think he’s really trying to be contrite), nor would the Rooneys be ok with him doing it.
by syrsteelerfan on Sep 3, 2010 11:30 AM EDT up reply actions
Are you sure the appeal goes in front of goodell alone.. You could be right but i thought there is a 3rd party arbitrator?
He would appeal with his lawyers fighting for him and the Player Union behind him… there is more than enough evidence support that lack of punishment for other offenders and even repeat offenders
If there was an arbitrator
It is likely he would not receive a suspension due to past precedent.
Goodell is Judge and Executor, the Media/Public Opinion the jury.
There has to be a 3rd party arbitrator. Otherwise no one would ever appeal anything… The reason for the appeal is to have someone else hear the case and be sure the original judge was not fulfilling their agenda…
Right. In a good system, that would be the case.
This is not a good system.
by syrsteelerfan on Sep 3, 2010 12:53 PM EDT up reply actions
Goodell hears all appeals and has final say on whether to overturn or uphold his prior ruling.

Why is anyone surprised?
The Commish already said it probably wouldn’t be under 4 games and the fact that he visited camp and said that he has gone above and beyond set it at 4 games. This should be no surprise. It’s just time for DD or Batch to step up…I believe they both can!! Go Steelers!!
no surprise
and it’s a good thing too, he’ll get two weeks of practice with the starters before his first start – and it’s not right against the purple browns
Truly a disgrace
When compared with the multitude of cases meriting no suspensions this season. Therefore, it is quite clear that the suspension is merely media driven. If the Steelers would have gotten ahead on the story, putting out good PR, explaining Big Ben’s side of the story, the media may have been more balanced i.e. focus on the multitude of errors in the girls stories or the exonerating DNA evidence. The lack of balanced reporting led to this suspension. The Steelers could’ve affected the media. If the media is more balanced, Ben only gets two games.
Putting the Ben's story of his side of a sexual assault case in the paper...
…might not have been the best legal strategy. He has been advised from the beginning not to fight a PR war, and I think the reasoning behind that decision is sound.

The whole point of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy
is public image. And as BadMaafala points out, arguing his case in public — campaigning — is a bad legal strategy. Furthermore, trying to defend yourself in a situation like this often accomplishes little more than keeping the fiasco in the public mind. Better to help it go away.
"Never mistake motion for action." - Ernest Hemingway
2 games would have been 2 games too many...
i’m still pissed that we have to go without BB for 4 games. No charges, no arrests, no convictions, no crime. Just a media firestorm and some slandering by that stupid DA in GA. Whatever. It’s over with. I think that Batch and Dixon can get us 3 wins at least. GO STEELERS!!!
question for steelers fans
whats the current QB situation? Have they declared Dixon the week 1 starter — is he likely to start all 4 games Ben is out?
Rumor is
We are trading Dixon and a 2011 4th round pick for Matt Leinart.

He cried because it finally sunk in
After the Thursday game, it finally sunk in that he’d be away from his team for the next month. The screw ups and the punishment became real. He apparently apologized to his teammates.
I won’t detail more, but I love my subscription to scout.com and think it’s definitely worth it.

Is it true
That been cried in the Sqellers locker room after it was announced he would have to do his time? Maybe Ben can play pitch and catch with Santonio Holmes. They both will have plenty of time and there familiarity is an assest.
How hard did you cry when you got knocked out of the playoffs
for the second year in a row?
I know it wasn’t as hard on you this year as last, because the Steelers weren’t the ones that kicked your puppy and slapped your mommas this time. But, maybe it WAS worse, because the team that spanked your little red bottoms is the team that couldn’t stand your city anymore and left you without a team to root for…
