Ok folks I know we are several hours away from final cuts, but I really don't expect any real suprizes. Therefore I am turning the page and looking forward to week one against the Atlanta Falcons. This is a very winnable game. The fact that we are at home against a so-so team makes this game huge, in that we need to go no worse than 2-2 before BB returns.
I know there is a lot of momentum behind starting Dixon, you can't deny his athletism, nor his ability to make something out of nothing. However I believe for the Steelers to make the playoffs, they need to win two games prior to the end of BB's suspension. The only gimme in those 4 is probably against Tampa Bay. The next easiest game, IMO, is the home opener. That's why the smart play is Chaz Batch. To say he is a pro's pro is an understatement. He has a firm grasp of the playbook, gets the ball out on time, and is accurate. (No I'm not his agent). He is no BB, but he will be competent in guiding the offense, and most importantly will not, I repeat will not, hurt them. Sure he is more of a game manager at this point, but that it was the Steelers will need on September 12. Sure mix in DD and give him maybe 10-15 snaps as a change of pace, but this is not the game to roll the dice with the kid. Not that all games aren't big in an NFL season, but a loss in week one with a tough road game in Tenessee the following week, could really be crippling. If the Steelers beat the falcons, then the pressure is off and we are playin with house money, and can start to get greedy. This is as much of a must win game as a week one can be. I know there are 15 left but this game is for the taking, and that's why the smart play is with Batch. Thereafter maybe work DD in even more, or consider starting him down the line, especially against a team like the Ravens who Blitz more the most. Repeat after me "In Batch we trust" for week one anyway.
