Cuts of interest around the league (i.e. A. Q. Shipley)
The Washington Redskins hit the cut-the-ex-Steeler trifecta on cut day, releasing FFWP (formerly fast Willie Parker), FFLF (former fan least favorite Tyrone Carter) and OFFLF (other former fan least favorite, Carey Davis).
Willie Parker was a real pro who illustrates the brutally short life of an NFL running back. The Redskins kept Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson, 2nd year undrafted Villanova RB Darrel Young and undrafted LSU free agent Keiland Williams.
The Redskins also cut former WVU lineman, Selvish Capers. Rumor has it that they tried to acquire Kendrick Clancy and Tyler Palko, so that they could cut them too.
And I take this opportunity to ask how, with all the Native-American related name changes of the past 20 years, how do the Redskins of all possible names, abide? Does Daniel Snyder have Sri Lankan factories belching genetically engineered evil mojo that causes us not to notice?
The Eagles cut A. Q. Shipley. Not looking good at this point for the former Rimington Award winner.
Kendrick Clancy was released by the Saints. Good for Clancy to have made it 10 years in the NFL, quite an accomplishment.
The Chiefs cut former Panther, Tyler Palko.
The Bills cut former Steeler, Donovan Woods.
Former Pitt-tormentor Tony Pike made the Panthers. To keep Pike, the Panthers cut Hunter Cantwell. Cantwell was operating under the handicap of the worst name in the NFL.
Fan favorite and noted smart-guy Myron Rolle was cut by the Seahawks.
The Dolphins cut 2009 2nd round choice Pat White, out of WVU.
Bobby Carpenter couldn't make the Rams and neither could Danario Alexander.
The Detroit Lions got rid of all of their 2009 defensive backs, except for Louis Delmas.
The Bears cut Antonio Brown's college QB, Dan LeFevour. LeFevour was also a 6th round choice. The Bears also cut 2009 draft darling, Jarron Gilbert.
The Raven's cut Troy Smith. The Bengals cut Matt Jones and 2nd year TE Chase Coffman. The Browns cut 2010 draftees Larry Asante and Clifton Geathers.
Thanks to SteelerMessican for prompting the following: The Colts start their quest for the Super Bowl with Deshea Townsend on their roster. Townsend will be 35 on Wednesday. Townsend covering Ward in the AFC title game? Could happen. Surprisingly resilient Anthony Smith is the starting strong safety of the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to the team depth chart. He is still only 26.

So I guess Deshea made it?
Good for him. Wonder what Anthony Smith is up to these days.
Gilbert, is that the guy that had the youtube video where he jumped out of a pool?
Selvish Capers. I was hoping Steelers would take a chance on him in the late rounds. Instead they went with Antonio Brown. That says it all.
This sentence should take up no more than 1 line.
Apparently
Anthony Smith is somehow in the reckoning down in Jacksonville to be one of their starting Safeties this year…

But wait
Myron Rolle is the best player to come out of college ever! And he was a RHODES SCHOLAR! This just goes to show that coaches in the NFL are scared of players that are smarter than them, even if they’re talented enough to be Pro Bowlers!

But I just find it weird that a guy can go from one of the best in the college, best in his (HS) class, when everyone else in that class is full of NFL players, to taking a year off and then not even being able to make a team. The guy does have talent but I’ve think we’ve seen from the likes of Vick, one year out of football is tough to come back from. Which is why no one will pick up Plaxico Burress when he gets out of jail, at least not for anything more than the vet minimum.
Steelers football is supposed to be 60 mins, recently it's been 45. The additional 15 are currently under construction.

I’m not sure what happened in his case, but I think it’s important to note that he never was a very good college player, despite any athleticism or intelligence. He was moderately productive, but more than likely he just never learned how to play football and taking a year off didn’t help anything. It’s important to remember that even top HS players aren’t good enough to play in the NFL and rankings are largely based on how the players project to develop. If they don’t develop, they don’t make good players.
Also, Rolle ran a 4.7 at the combine, so his 4.3 speed may have been an exaggeration or a thing of the past. Even if you believe he’s a 4.5 athlete like he showed at his pro day, that makes him an average athlete for a safety who wasn’t productive in college (i.e. a guy that gets drafted in the 6th round, then cut).

Sorry Momma, Rolle is not really a football player. But worst case scenario for him is like brain surgeon so he’ll be okay and might someday rescue all of Ethiopia or something like that.

Sad for FWP
NFL= Not For Long
Remember how a lot of people wanted the Steelers to get Gilbert in 09? Sure glad we didn’t!
Too bad for Pat White. This guy should make a move up north and play in the CFL. He’d be a great fit on the big fields. And maybe he can pull a Jeff Garcia and come back after polishing his game a little…
Dick, what would Woody (Hayes) say to you now: "He'd say, 'LeBeau, get your hair cut.'"
not a bad point
White would be a good fit for CFL.

In other developments, one of the following 2 items is currently making news. Can you guess which?
1. Apple announces that Isaac Redman has psychically dominated Steve Jobs and that all decisions will now be made by “the Great Leader”. Apple announces that its next device will be the iRed, which, utilizing hybrid ecolasers, switches the mojo of any two people, like say Bruce Davis and Ray Lewis.
2. Darelle Revis’ grandma thinks he is underpaid.
I hope #1 isn't true -
because the possibility of it being used for evil is just too obvious. As to #2, everybody’s grandmother thinks they are underpaid. This is news?
Welcome to the site – I can see you will fit right in. That should be a scary thought for you…

Revis is underpaid
I’m/I was a big Chicago Bulls fan, and Scott Pippen kept signing a new “big” contract the season before everything changed money wise in the NBA. He was always underpaid, well that is until he came to the The Pacific NW, and the Blazers, or Trail Blazers as they went by then. He finally made his money then, after he was worth it.
Revis and Woodley, and I’m sure some more, are today’s NFL version of the 80’s Pippen, wrong place wrong time money wise.
Woodley seems to be smart enough to realize that, everyone watching him play make way less and really don’t feel too sorry for someone making nearly a million/year, and that the Steelers don’t/won’t tie up their future on one guy, even if they know he’s worth it.
Once the CBA gets redone (please let it get done) the Steelers will pay Woodley what he’s worth and move on. The Jets on the otherhand will likely go ahead and knee jerk Revis’s contract very soon.
If you buy a foreign made product you give money to a person who will not be buying an American made product that you get paid to make. Think about it next time you're at the store.
Revis has Jets over a barrel
to a certain degree in mho. I think the Jet defence needs him taking away that #1 receiver every game but I also think the money he is asking for it idiotic.

One more interesting cut that I did not see above...
my Niners cut Bruce, former Steeler, Davis.
As to Myron Rolle, I dunno…I still kinda believe he could have an NFL career if he wants to.
Bobby Carpenter was another interesting name. I’ve considered previously that the dude might make a worthy Steeler.

Bobby Carpenter is done.
I hope he saved his money, because I can’t see a roster spot for him him anywhere in the NFL.

Lefevour
picked up by da Bungles. D’oh — sorry kid
FB to pickup
Seahawks to waive FB Owen Schmitt — would be a nice pickup….
Incidentally they signed former PSU QB Michael Robinson to necessitate this move.
Tony Richardson FB
cut from the Jets. Another great opportunity – even if only for the first couple weeks in place of the wounded Leftwich.
Schmitt would offer better long term potential though.

That's when the little pouch that the QB wears on their front
to keep their amulets and stuff gets knocked to the other side, hence “fullback.” That’s why Arians doesn’t like them – because the QB could be seriously injured if they fall on, say, a small bronze statue of Shiva, God of Destruction.

Anthony Smith
He had the athletic ability to make it in the NFL, his head kept getting in the way.
Maybe a year in Buffalo helped him grow up, if he gets his head straight, he’d be a solid safety.
Too bad though!!
He was what a 3rd rounder. Oh well, Clark is a much better presence on the team
