Mike Tomlin has named Dennis Dixon the opening day starter against the Falcons. Dixon took all the first team snaps today while Charlie Batch ran the second team.

I am going to be really freaking nervous watching him on Sunday. I can only imagine how nervous he must be.
I know he can do it, and I hope that he can overcome the pressure.
grain of salt
I know what you mean.
I hope he can play at least as well as he did against Baltimore last year.

I was feeling pretty good about Dixon until I saw this: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5539943. I hope that the Ward comment was offhand or out of context. I does cast some doubt for me now.

I didnt see anything mentioned in that article by Ward. Dixons comments from that article were aired on NFL Network tho and i echo your sentiment. Dixons body language was a little worrisome throughout the interview, sorta like he doesnt believe in himself. im probably just reading way too much into it. Hes just a soft spoken dude i think, sorta like Troy.

Here are some more comments from the vets. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/steelers/s_698240.html. Miller seems confident in him. Ward seems to say that Dixon just needs to not try to win it all by himself. The way Bouchette relayed those comments made me think Ward was saying Dixon was not ready. I have heard that Dixon is soft spoken. He is definitely different than Big Ben in that respect.

I dont think Ward was saying Dixons not ready, just that Dixon should not try to do too much or feel like he needs to carry the team.
