Ed Bouchette reports in the Post-Gazette this afternoon that Dennis Dixon will be behind Maukrice Pouncey when the Steelers open against Atlanta at Heinz Field.
Bouchette's source: Coach Mike Tomlin, who confirmed that Dixon will be the starters after Dixon ran the first-team offense during practice while Homestead Charlie ran the second team. The Steelers Quarterback derby has seen more changes than even Lady Gaga's concert last night at the Coal Mine (Consol Energy Center), but it looks like Double D is the man.
Let's hope he lights up the place with his speed and elusiveness, and has enough time to hit his receivers. Of course, we also hope that the Pony Backfield with Spin and the Sainted Redman make it so he doesn't have to throw that much. And that he doesn't get broken in half or toss any awful interceptions.
It's a big roll of the dice, but Tomlin knows a lot more about football than Homer does. So I'm confident that he's making the right choice....that Dixon is a better choice than Batch....but it's still a roll of the dice.
C'mon seven! Baby needs a new pair of shoes!
