I'm an SEC guy, so while I saw Oregon play a few times this year, Monday night was my first chance to really watch LB Casey Matthews in-depth. For those of you that saw him play in the Championship Game (or better yet, Pac-10 or Oregon fans), what do you think of trying to pick him up in the 6th or 7th round of the draft this year?
I'll make my limited case:
Good size - 6'2, 240
Good level of competition - able to play at a very high level against very athletic offenses in the Pac-10
Incredible pedigree - 3rd Generation NFLer, will be the 3rd of probably 4 in this generation of his family to make it to the league
Great intangibles - just seems like the kind of kid who could thrive in our organization; could come in and contribute on ST immediately if he earned a hat, and could eventually grow into a solid contributor in our LB corps
What do you think? ILB is definitely not a huge need, so there's no way we'll draft one early. Casey just seems like the kind of guy that could be a real steal at the end of the draft.
