Shades of '79 and the Packers are the favorite?
Back in '79 (when I was 14) the Steeler season was a bit similar to this one. We were 12-4 and had gotten smoked by the #1 seed (San Diego at 12-4) earlier in the season 35-7. Houston was a Wildcard that season and defeated San Diego, the next week we defeated the Oilers in Pittsburgh and later went on to win SB #4 over the Rams. I really feel we didn't match up well against the Fouts led Chargers especially at home. They were loaded, Joiner, Jefferson, etc. This weekend was sort of a flashback, Patriots #1 seed, beat us in our worst loss of the season, lose to a Wildcard, AFC Championship in Pittsburgh. I hope the SB results also turn out the same.
I saw somewhere on line today that Vegas had the Packers as the favorite (of the final four) to win the SB, that suprised me. Naturally I thought it would be the Steelers due to experience and defense. If the Steelers-Packers would meet in the SB I would have thought we would be a slight favorite (1-3 points). I guess I don't know as much as I thinMaybe it is based on the assumption that they play a weaker team in the championship game, thoughts?

Pack beat the Bears 10-3, last regular season game.
Bears beat the Pack early – maybe Week 4?

10-3
I don’t know how much I would read into that loss. It was a close game and I think it could have gone either way.

I was only 7 in '79, but from what I've read about that team, it is kind of similar.
Maybe this year, things will go in reverse. They just vanquished their fierce division rivals and now they’ll go on and put away the other wildcard team.
Vegas odds
are set to make the casinos money, not necessarily in favor of the better over all team

'79 Steelers
I have to disagree a bit with the comparison to ‘79. The Steelers did lose badly to the Chargers, but in a much different way. San Diego’s offense didn’t really do much in that game. Fouts threw for only 137 yards and completed less then 50% of his passes. That one was about Bradshaw throwing 5 picks and playing a bad game. It would have been a much different game if there was a 2nd go around.
Brad
I was there.D just put in a bad spot all game long.Really was dreading a return to the Murph for AFCCG rematch but also looking forward to that rematch cuz their was no way Brad was gonna be that bad twice.A big playoff upset of all-time that nobody talks about was Oilers goin in there the wk b4 & beating the rested Chargers…I guess history keeps repeating itself and repeating itself. It would’ve been interesting how the Steelers played @ SD that yr just like it would’ve @ NE this yr.Knew at the time keeping Tone in the conf. vs shipping him to TB or SEA could be dicey but who woulda thunk it so soon…and it was at the expense of NE anyway. All boils down to O-line.

Packers
The Packers need to get past the Bears. The Bears D has shown they can handle Rodgers and the Bears ST are very good. As long as the Bears offence can get out of the rut they were in during their last loss to the Packers, This game is very winnable for them. Did Martz hold back some plays last game? Guess we will find out this weekend.
There is no reason the Steelers shouldn’t win it all as long as they all bring their best games for the next two games though things like flu, refs and luck may play more than a small part of it.

The best thing the Bears have going for them
is their horrible field. The Packers have the better D, and I’d take Rodgers over Cutler in a heartbeat.
That said, I think the AFC teams are far superior to the NFC teams.

heh
This week I have been hearing that Heinz Field is considered to be worse.
I think the Bears may match up well very the Pack defensively but we will see soon enough.
