Ask Revenge Of The Birds

I don't know if you guys have the tradition of doing it, but I'm Jess Root, the guy that runs Revenge of the Birds, the SB Nation Cardinals blog. I know you guys have the answers about everything, being that you are fans of the team that just keeps winning Super Bowls and stuff, but maybe you have a few questions for us who know the Cardinals. (I'm not bitter at all about that "catch" by Santonio Holmes.)

If you do have any inquiries, you know what to do. Leave comments. I and probably others of ROTB will be by periodically to answer.

What the general fanbase opinion about...

Ken Wisenhunt: how long do you think the owner is behind him and
willing to wait for him to put putting a competitive (playoff caliber) team?

Larry Fitzgerald: what most fans thing about the money that he received?

1rst round pick: Which position the fanbase want the FO to address in the first round of next years draft?

Ray Horton: What you guys think of the job that he has been doing so far?

Patrick Peterson: is he good as advertised?

Answers:

On Whiz: Next year is critical and maybe before if attendance starts dropping (losing sellouts)

Fitz: It was a lot of money, but the fans have mostly been applauding the fact that the franchise is willing to pay him.

Draft: OFFENSIVE LINE

Horton: Fans are high on him, but unhappy with how defense has played

PP: Having issues in coverage sometimes, but is electric to watch in return game. He looks like he will be as good as advertised.

Also can strongly consider OLB… with MAJOR rush ability…. although I do consider OL more important since we have two young guys with potential Sam Acho and O´b Schofield at OLB but no up and coming OT

The Cardinals are known in Pittsburgh circles as “Steelers West.” How do you feel about that nickname?

If it gets championships

then cool. But aside from bringing in a few former Steelers as players and coaches, the two teams don’t look alike.

Kolb

How has the fanbase reacted to the team’s start after landing what was supposed to be the franchise QB? Are you guys blaming the OL or has Kolb started catching fan flack?

by PittRiverman on Oct 19, 2011 8:54 AM EDT reply actions

Kolb definitely has caught some flack

Especially for his happy feet. We understand skittishness behind that OL but he seems to roll out every other play. The problem is his rollouts never produce anything. He also has a tendency to fumble on sacks, its been like 6 fumbles in 5 games.
I’m not making judgements of ability right now after 5 games, since allegedly the Whiz playbook throws a lot on top of the QBs shoulders.

He has shown toughness and the right attitude.

Our main concern is that Kolb started OK and he seems to be regressing. I personally am willing to give him the whole season to prove himself, that said, I really expect to see some improvement week to week.

PS. More than the OL its the tackles who recieve the blame, the interior OL we find has been doing a better job. Our tackles are awful

Would you say that

Ray Horton’s D looks a lot like a Dick LeBeau clone, or has he put his own stamp on it? (Although in fairness I suppose it’s a little soon to judge for certain…)

Much too soon to tell

Hortons D is supposed to be a handful and its showing. The players seem to be overthinking assignments, which leads to poor play, especially the secondary. Also the pass rush isn’t there yet, the blitzes aren´t getting there.
A lot of fans believe its a personnel problem, we seem to have people better suited for a 4-3 rather than a 3-4 i.e. great DEs (dockett and campbell) but no quality OLBs

by ELrupps on Oct 19, 2011 12:09 PM EDT up reply actions

definitely too early

It is a LeBeau defense. It just isn’t as effective because the pressure hasn’t been there.

I try to answer

PP7 is fast, big and great in the return game. Right now though his ceiling has been lowered by Horton’s scheme. The biggest knock on PP7 coming out was his football intelligence and it seems he has hit the wall on knowledge part. He has shown some great coverage skill at times and some mind boggling mental errors at other times. It is too early to tell if he can be a Revis or Nnamdi but I think he will be very good. If not there is always the possibility he can play FS.

Look how long it takes for the Steelers to develop quality CBs.

I like PP21

I think I am one of the few who actually sees the good things hes been doing on the field. For as much blown coverages as he’s surrendered, he has had plays where he has just been completely draped on his man. He excells in man coverage to a point where yes he could be a Revis or Nnamdi but i doubt he will ever develop and reach his full potential if he stays in this system. His speed, size, and strength are unreal…. once he learns this defense its gon be hard to stop him. I just wish we didnt play steeler defense, its obviously effective, but we have personnel to run a jets defense which is equally as good, and corners that we should be playing man to man. My only frustration with the cardinals is coach whiz infatuation to be like the steelers.

why are people hard on him?

he’s a friggin rookie. if he’s still doing that in year 3, then i’d be worried.

by FrankWyt on Oct 19, 2011 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Thats what im sayin

He is usually playing against the other teams #1 WR so of course he gonna get beat once in a while, add the fact that he is a rookie, learning the zone for the first time, and has no help from veteran DBs cuz i think they still dont fully understand this new defense and he is pretty much garunteed to have a loooooooong rookie year. But u can see the talent and dedication to the game oozing from his ears.

by cgcardzfan on Oct 19, 2011 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think learning the techniques is the much of an issue, he played in a lot of cover 2 and cover 3 defenses at LSU, he knows the landmarks, he knows the depth of his drops, I think once his confidence grows he will get better. I think he might be better inside where he is allowed to read the QB, but we shall see.

Things is Peterson is not capable of doing that yet, he is getting beaten in man coverage a lot because he is not getting the little things right, he has been playing outside shoulder technique on routes that are likely to break inside, giving the receiver a free extra half step. He has been beaten for TD’s on 9 routes becasue despite him starting off in solid coverage he looks back for the football too early and the receiver gains a step that way.

He played a lot of zone coverage at LSU, and it allows him to read the QB and play the way he likes to aggressive and attacking the football, he can still play press coverage in a zone concept too.

The INT he had vs SD, zone coverage that allowed Peterson to read the QB and jump a route.

Thanks for stopping by Jess

I’m sure one of us will set one of these up on your site today. My questions:

How do you feel the Cardinals did in the off season? I was not a fan of the Kolb trade. I thought it was too small of a sample size to know what his value is. How did you feel about your draft then vs. now? Did you get any late steals?

Who is the one underdog on your 53 that NFL fans outside of your fanbase wouldn’t know, but Cardinals fans love?

How has that former ratbird TE been doing?

Dan Williams was talked about as a possible draft pick for us back in 2010. How is he coming along?

How do you think your defense will fare against Mike Wallace? Which Steelers WR will have the most favorable match up?

Lots of questions... gonna be a long post

Kolb:
Liked the player but hated the terms. I was one who thought DRC wasn’t such a big loss as its made out to be. He didn’t fit Hortons system though I think I’m in the minority there. The guy couldn’t tackle to save his life though he was extremely talented.
We’ve been worried because he seems to be regressing after an OK start. We still don’t like the $63M contract, it sets up expectations for better production than what we’ve had.

Offseason and Draft:
Big offseason players in FA market which was a surprise.
We liked the draft, though the ryan williams pick was a headscratcher.

Peterson(1st) has had troubles but he’ll get better, not worried about him.
RB Williams (2nd) We love the guy now and were devastated when he was out for the season.
TE Housler(3rd) looks to be a good player, especially as a pass catcher.
LB Acho(4th) is a smart player with potential
FB Sherman (5th) is a baller.
LB Sturdivant (6th) we thought he was a steal but he dissapointed, not with the team anymore
NT Carter (6th) Didn’t know much about him, the steal of our draft. David Carter has been amazing, he is behind Dan Williams at NT but def deserves playing time.
WR Sampson (7th) Had a good preseason, on PS

TE upgrades have been amazing, first time in years we’ve had real production. Heap has been hurt but him and Jeff king have been playing great. King especially, a blocking TE has some of the longest touchdown of the season.
BTW we were excited about getting LB Bradley but he hasn’t been playing a lot.

Underdogs

DARYLL WASHINGTON.
He has been the best defensive player so far. Our starting ILB with amazing speed and range who plays really hard.

Dan Williams is a starter now and a good player, but the lockout didn’t help his conditioning. He can really hold up blockers though, now if we only could find someone to rush the passer.

Mike Wallace has me terrified with his 40 yard TD per game, our coverage hasn’t been great. IMO Horton should let the CBs play press man, Peterson on Wallace, PP has the speed to keep up and playing man he doesn’t have to think too much. Jefferson is slower but he’s played very well.
Our Achilles heel is the TE, we have slow safeties with so so coverage skills so a good TE will give us plenty trouble.

by ELrupps on Oct 19, 2011 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I wish the Steelers had a young NT that was a steal. Our NTs are getting pretty old. I recall seeing Acho projected to the Steelers in a lot of drafts around the 3rd, so he is definitely a steal for the 4th.

I’d love to see you guys play press on Wallace. I don’t think I’ve seen a team do that extensively yet and I’d like to see how he responds.

Both the Carters

Are really good football players. David Carter is awesome, for a rookie he has far exceeded any expectations IMO. He isnt your prototypical NT as far as size, but he has skills! He can play DE and NT which makes him even more of a steal.

playing press man on Wallace might kill you if Peterson doesn’t have the recovery speed to make up for it if he misses on the press.

I'll answer both questions at once

He ran a 4.34 in the 40.

So he doesn’t has to be as fast as Wallace just fast enough to stick an arm out and disrupt the pass.

I was just asking in because if he missed when playing press coverage at the LOS it might hurt him,

Stated this in a post on ROTB

Patrick Petersen excelled in man coverage at LSU. Man coverage is the easiest coverage to understand therefore allows PP to play the fastest he can because he is comfortable. The reason you play press is because Wallace has a tough time getting off the press and has a slender build. The press also disrupts BA “go deep” philosophy.Pertersen is fast enough to keep up with a disrupted Wallace. He won’t out run him to the ball but will be able to disrupt a pass. Jefferson is slower the PP but is lengthy therefore a press coverage also suites him. However both may still need a safety over the top to force a TO. Jefferson would definitely need one against Wallace.

by Steel34D on Oct 19, 2011 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

wouldn't call Wallace big or slender.

199/200 pounds and 6 foot seems like a decent/average size, and compared to PP’s 219 lb 6 foot frame the press strategy could be a wash.

Hopefully BA doesn’t go deep crazy again, but either way I will enjoy watching this match up.

So I would say it is a push cause the Pro Days are so flawed with different surfaces, conditions etc.

well thats not even my point

the difference between 4.3 and 4.4 is an arm length, thats all Patrick needs to bat down a ball. So he doesn’t need to be as fast as Wallace to be effective.

by tannofsteel84 on Oct 19, 2011 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

The difference is between a 4.33 (Wallace) and a 4.34 (Patrick Petersen) on the same track in Indy and that difference is more comparable to like 6 inches at most.

1 – Dan Williams has not been that good at all, has played less than 20 snaps per game this season, and only 21 more totla snaps than David Carter. Huge disappointment, in more than one way.

2 – Underdog has to be the Hyphen, special teams ACE.

3 – Jefferson and Peterson will continue to play left and right CB, so it will depend on where Wallace lines up as to who will cover him.

Loved the offseason moves.

I’m a big Kolb fan.

The draft I felt was solid. David Carter (6th rd) is already a steal. WR DeMarco Sampson (7th) hasn’t had much playing time yet, but looked amazing in the preseason.

Heap has battled a hamstring injury recently.

Williams has been disappointing. He is inconsistent still at doing his job, but will make a few plays.

Underdog — see CB AJ Jefferson. Undrafted a yr ago, won a starting job in camp. Will impress. He will probably line up opposite Wallace, so it may be a little tough. The issue mostly has been once the WRs get past the CB zone into the safety area. Safety play has been big negative.

NO and NO

1) Doucet is playing well, the TE production is there and Fitz is Fitz, but to pick apart a defense the QB needs time in the pocket. With our Offensive tackles and a QB that is bailing too quickly from the pocket that´s not happening.

2)The starting OLBs are old, the emerging OLB need more time. The blitzes aren’t getting there in time. Our DEs have stepped up but this is a 3-4 so a DE being our best rusher is a red flag. We have brought some pressure but it dissapears when it’s needed most (read: oppossition 4th Qtr comebacks)

They blitz about 50% of the time

As I said, the regular rush isn’t that effective so pressure needs to be manufactured with extra rushers. But Horton announced since his intro press conference this was gonna be a blitzing D. In his words, the first play in the first game he called was going to be a blitz.

by ELrupps on Oct 19, 2011 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Horton needs to up grade the D

So far our DL has been killing OLs on the pass rush specifically Brett Keisel and Ziggy Hood.

with DE Aaron Smith and NT Casey Hampton out it has been tough for the Steelers to play their base defense, so instead they have been playing alot of amoeba defense with only the NT having their hand on the ground and the two DEs and Woodely standing up and moving around with Polamalu coming down and acting like an ILB to create confusion.

I have seen snaps with Calais Campbell and Dockett standing up moving on the line, and Adrian Wilson getting in the box. U guys will basically see a mirror image of your Defense on sunday….. minus the OLB getting to the QB. I have watched and rewatched a couple steelers game to try and figure out how the Defense looks when ran properly and they look very very similar. You will just see more mistakes on our side for obvious reasons.

i am not as hard on him as others are

To me, he was the one reason number 7 isn’t ours.
No doubt in my mind he would have made some magic in the Super Bowl last year.
He had soooooooooo many game winning td’s, game changing td’s..the guy was as clutch as Big Ben.
Of course, i ignore the media, and i don’t care what players do off the field.
I thought it was a stupid trade, and i still feel that way. If the worst thing you can say about him is “he smokes weed” guess what, i’m cool with that. I wish he would have been smarter about it, but hey , it is what it is.
He had other problems too. I think he tweeted once and told the person who was heckling him to go kill himself.
I think most of his stories were blown way out of proportion, but whatever.
He also had the naked shower pic, which isn’t good. Unfortunately i “saw it”
i must say i am extremely jealous.
Over all, yes, trouble found him a lot. But like i said, i only care about what goes on between the lines.

I don't mean to be hard on him, I just really feel betrayed as a fan.

He’s someone I think cared more about himself than he ever did about the organization, the City or the fans who really loved him and everything he did for the team.

And I happen to agree with you…. had he been a Steeler last year, the SB could easily have been 7th Heaven. The chemistry between he and Ben was spectacular even on a bad day.

I just don't think of it the way you do

He wants to smoke. He has a stressful life, with a child that could die at any minute. He’s from an environment where drug use is normal.
I guess that’s no excuse, and it does suck that he kept smoking.
But i think the other issues were more important to the FO than the weed thing honestly. Remember he got accused of smashing a glass in someone’s face. Personally at the time, i questioned that. It was just too weird that a month after the Ben fiasco, a “crime” was hung on the “druggy”
It just seemed like an attempt to deflect criticism.
The Rooney’s are smart, they know how to work the system.
But, I’m never going to know the truth, and you aren’t either.
That’s why i ONLY judge a player on what happens between the lines.

He was magical in Pitt

He is the reason u won the superbowl. He got wide ass open in the end zone. Great reciever imo. He’s actually my #2 behind Fitzgerald. I could give a shit what he does off the field, he could be a gay crackhead but if he performs on Sundays Idc! U guys really just gave him away to make a point in my opinion. As far as him not making noise in New York; MARK SANCHEZ! That’s all I have to say about that

by cgcardzfan on Oct 20, 2011 12:09 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

It was to make a point

and to deflect criticism away from Ben
it’s like “see we don’t put up with the b.s”
it worked because they could hide behind the fact that Ben wasn’t arrested or brought to trial in any way.
Of course, as someone who only cares what happens on Sunday or Monday, I want them both out there. People that say “playing in the NFL is a privilege”, bullshit. that’s what people who weren’t good enough to make it think.

As far as Dirty Sanchez…yeah he’s awesome, lol
In terms of starting qb’s where would you rank him?
last year I said he was the 27th best starting qb in the league
this year i say he’s number 30? am i over estimating him?
keep in mind though, two starting qbs are named John Beck, and Matt Moore

by FrankWyt on Oct 20, 2011 12:19 AM EDT up reply actions

i wouldn't put him at the second best

The two Johnsons, in my opinion, are equal to Fitz..it’s hard to say one is better than the other.
But if the game is on the line, and i need a huge play…Santonio is number 1.
If i’m in a situation like that, i’d honestly pick him over ANY receiver. You have no idea how many wins he was responsible for in his short time in Pitt.
that Super Bowl catch was just par for the course for him.
He always stepped up against the Ravens, which is obviously huge for us, and in the playoffs…woooo boy.
Just look at him last year, even on the Jets with dirty sanchez, he still had 3 or 4 gw td catches
and one of them was re-gotdamn-diculous….

yeah, I miss him big time

I don’t disagree~ however when what a player does off the field affects what he does/can do on the field (can’t do a whole lot for 4 games when you’re sitting at home suspended) then it’s a problem because it hurts the team. Then it moves to selfish/self-serving/ “imma do what I want. Screw you guys.”

I don’t put a lot of stock in most of what the media says; until someone is arrested/charged it’s little more than rumors. That whole drink in the face thing just was way overblown.

I agree

Wallace is great when at full speed, but stop and start is not his forte, and there were a couple sideline quick slants in the SB where he got tackled, and Santonio would have slipped ’em for big yardage.

I think the main thing is that he was a locker room problem, but still…the team definitely should have gotten more for him.

Many in Steeler Nation

asked that question, but with much coarser language. I think that the Steelers FO has been vindicated, for a couple of reasons.

1) We got Bryant McFadden back with the pick, which seemed like a bigger deal at the time than it was, (although I think it would have been sheer genius if he hadn’t been hurt since the first game of last season,)

2) they took Antonio Brown in the next round, and finally,

3) this article. one of several that have popped up lately about rifts in the Jets locker room that seem to be caused at least in part by Holmes. Although a lot of the guys were friendly with him, I’ve read a few things that indicated that Holmes wasn’t a great colleague. He was certainly selfish, always demanding the ball. That’s not the Steeler way. His contract was up at the end of 2010, and I’m pretty sure the Steelers weren’t planning to keep him anyway, because of money, but even more because of this stuff.

The Steeler Way

I don’t really think a talented playmaker wanting the ball is all that selfish. Too much gets made out of that. The problem with Santonio is he’s a separator, and not a leader. They traded him to lessen the damage he was going to do internally on his way out. He made it known he wanted top 5 WR money, and the Steelers weren’t interested in giving him that. He knew it, and he was openly challenging Tomlin and the FO in front of everyone.

He was only going to play 12 games at most, and he was one puff away from not playing at all. And keep in mind, he was openly talking about getting high on Twitter. He obviously didn’t care, he wanted out, so we gave the baby his bottle.

Then we crammed that bottle up his (bleep) in the AFC Championship game – at least until Ike slipped and Tone broke his route deep. Stupid Heinz Field turf…either way, the Jets can now pay him $10 mil per to pout on the sideline. He’ll make plays, and he’ll be a pain in the (bleep), and we’ll never have to worry about him again.

by Neal Coolong on Oct 21, 2011 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Amen to everything,

especially the part about landing the Jets with him. I wonder how Rex likes him now?

My only quibble is the part about “selfish.” You want to get your best playmakers the ball, obviously. That’s not really what I was getting at, although yammering on and on about it to your QB could be considered to be counterproductive. I’m more thinking of Holmes’ avowed concern for his stats. Hines Ward pointed out to him that “in Pittsburgh, we don’t play for stats, we play for Lombardis.” It seemed to fall on deaf ears.

Maybe I'm just desensitized

To the complaints of modern wide receivers and their desire to boost their stats. It’s naive of us to think Mike Wallace isn’t headed that direction, and Antonio Brown’s picked up, what, two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and got stuck on a wall during a celebration this regular and preseason?

They’re all jackasses, I guess I just hope they catch 90 percent of what’s thrown at them, don’t get penalized for their showboating and stay out of jail.

My question for the ROTB guys

Do you sincerely believe that it wasn’t a catch? If so, how could you justify that? there is so much visual evidence out there.
I know there is a youtube video that “proves” it wasn’t a catch, but that is a picture of the back of his feet, without showing where the ball is at that time.
Basically it was snapped as he was falling down, after already establishing control, and having both feet down.

by FrankWyt on Oct 19, 2011 2:08 PM EDT reply actions

I don't hear anyone saying it wasn't a here in AZ

The most complaints I heard was Holmes should of had an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for excessive celebration, and that the last play of the game should have been reviewed. Yes there should have been a penalty and the last play was definitely a fumble.

I believed it wasn't

until I saw one particular view of both toes down. Previously, the best was showing one toe above the ground. I just live in denial.

Lol

i can respect that .
It just wouldn’t be a Steeler game if there wasn’t controversy.
The Ravens fans were crying about a couple catches Santonio made that year (the one where he was in the endzone, and caught the ball right on the line, for one)
Obviously you know the Seattle story, last years game in Miami, immaculate reception, the Renfro catch, the coin toss game….the list goes on and on

by FrankWyt on Oct 19, 2011 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

yes, penalty for sure

last play was reviewed according to Al and John. they said the booth already buzzed down saying it was a fumble, which was the right call.
But at the top of this page, it says "(I’m not bitter at all about that “catch” by Santonio Holmes.)
That’s why i asked

My Question...

If in ’08, lets say 17 year old cashier wore a Polamalu jersey with his terrible towel and black shoes with yellow/gold laces, would you scream at his manager that he is a disgrace and should be fired immediately? Or loudly complain to other cashiers? Or not go into his lane even though all the others had about a 10 minute wait?

Cause all these happened to me on multiple occasions, no lie.

wait

you were the 17 year cashier? and people were that rude to you?

by FrankWyt on Oct 19, 2011 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions

@Jess Root’s response; Yeah I expect that from many people and got plenty of dirty looks, only had about 10 costumers all day (5 hour shift) only one was a “Cardinals fan” she was on the phone didn’t even notice the rest were Steelers fans.

@FrankWyt response; Yeah I had 3 people ask for a manger to another cashier and started yelling at them that I should be fired. All of them were over forty and the first wreaked of boos, the latter complained about my “dress code” and at first stated I should be sent home then when he didn’t get the answer he wanted got more anger. The others were just obnoxious comment to fellow cashier. It was an interesting day but made for a great topic on my senior English paper the year later.

Just smile at them and wave your towel proudly

If you got fired for that, you’d be a celebrity, and I’m sure an opportunistic Steelers-fan business owner around there would hire you in an instant.

Woodley yes, Worilds not to sure.

We simply haven’t seen that much from him, and this will likely be his first start if he starts at all. In preseason he looked good on his pass rush but over pursued some time and leaves less to be desired in run stuffing, but then again we are spoiled from watch Harrison dominate in just about everything.

Against the Vikings our tackles allowed a combined 19 pressures (Hurries hits sacks) on 42 pass attempts. our tackles alone are responsible for pressure on nearly 50% of pass dropbacks.

At this time I beleive Joey Porter(who has recorded 4 pressures in 5 games) would get consistent pressure against our tackles.

What has been the biggest surprise and biggest disappointment of the season so far?

The answer can be a specific player or just an overall facet of the game like run defense, pass protection, etc.

by LV Steelers Fan on Oct 19, 2011 3:58 PM EDT reply actions

Biggest surpise, probably the play of AJ Jefferson, I knew he had the athleitic ability, but he has really impressed me with his ability to keep the play in front of him and not allow big plays.

Biggest disappointment, probabaly a combination of our last two first round pick Dan Williams and Patrick Peterson. Peterson has been a whipping boy in coverage, though he has been lining up in a lot of 1 v 1 man coverage against NFL #1’s so it happens. Cardinals tend to play left and right CB’s so if Wallace moves around he will see coverage from a whole lot of different guys. Peterson usually plays on the right side of the defense, Jefferson the Left.

Dan Williams has been a huge disappointment, currently the Cardinals rank 29th against runs up the middle, that is a big black mark against a NT, and according to number from Mike Sando over at ESPN. He is playing less than 20 snaps/game, and only 21 more total snaps than David Carter. Expect to see a lot of 2-4-5 type sets with 3 CB’s on the field.

Speaking of PP

Is he showing improvement? Is it a physical talent thing, or is it the mental aspect of the game?

I thought he was gonna be great, and it’s six games into his rookie year, so he still well could be, but I thought he was more NFL ready than he seems to have been; is it just going against a lot of opponents #1 guys with a lousy pass rush?

"Football combines the two worst things about America: It is violence punctuated by committee meetings" -George Will

by lottwasgangsta on Oct 20, 2011 12:34 AM EDT up reply actions

Seems to be more mental. is not making the plays on the ball that people have expected. By my numbers he has been thrown at 27 times, and he has only got his hands on one of those targets (For a Deflection) his INT came on a hail mary lob.

We need him to become more of a playmaker, and that means we need to play more zone coverage, but with the way our pass rush is right now any time we drop into a cover 3 or a quarters defense we get gashed because the receivers have time to find the soft spots and the QB time to make the accurate throw.

Better name: Card Schatter

A very good play on words, especially given the common song bird’s propensity to shat when alarmed, challenged or put under stress.

Usually spelled Shatter – one who has shat. Shat, from the 18th Century English meaning the past tense of the word – shit. Akin to use of sit and sat.

Just F’n with ya. The banter has been informative and remarkably adult. I digress…

He was brought in as a blocking tight end and the D seems to forget to cover him. The real pass catching reserve is 3rd rnd pick Housler. Has nice speed and hands but Kolb has missed him a couple of times while wide open so we hope that gets fixed this game
