Woodley has not been playing well this season. We all expected a lot from him after the second half of last season. In the first 6 games of last season he had just 3.5 sacks, but had 6.5 after that and an additional 1 per post season game. With this season, he is off to a slow start. What do this season and the first 6 games of last season have in common, Aaron Smith. I love Aaron Smith, IMO the best 3-4 DE to play in the 2000’s, but his play the past couple of season is no up to par. I am seeing the same blind loyalty to veterans that many Steelers fans complained about during the Cowher years. Ziggy is more explosive and therefore, frees up the OLB on his side to do his job. Aaron Smith injured his foot this game and may be out a few weeks. Keisel will be back and we will see a lot of Ziggy and Cameron Heywood next to Lamarr. I am interested in seeing how his play improves during Smith’s absence.
All that being said, time to get Farrior and Foote out of there as well. I love what they have done for this organization, but they are not getting it done. And the young corners are starting to get it done, I think Keenan Lewis’ play has earned him more time. He is no worse than McFadden and Gay and at least gives us the opportunity for a corner to improve
