Emmanuel Sanders Announces Passing Of His Mother

Steelers WR Emmanuel Sanders wrote on Facebook and Twitter Tuesday morning his mother passed away.

Sanders didn't comment any further, except to ask again for prayers and support from SteelerNation via Twitter.

Steelers WR Mike Wallace also asked for support for Sanders and his family via Twitter.

Out of respect for Sanders and his family, we won't dig for any other details, and we'll wait for the team to discuss any potential of Sanders missing Sunday's game against Baltimore.

We here at Behind The Steel Curtain are praying for Sanders and his family, and we ask all of SteelerNation to do the same. His Facebook message came at approximately 9:26 a.m. ET, and as of 11:26 a.m. ET, he already had 761 messages from fans of Sanders and the Steelers alike.

You can send him your support via his Facebook page, which is linked here, as is his Twitter handle.

Sanders is clearly already very well liked among his teammates, and is establishing himself into a very talented receiver. He seems to have a connection with QB Ben Roethlisberger in the red zone, and already has 18 catches for 243 yards and two touchdowns on the season.

One of the Steelers "Young Money" receivers, Sanders shined in his first career start last week against New England, catching five passes for 70 yards.

It’s important to me that everyone know I didn’t write this in hopes to getting traffic to the site. I wrote it because I know SteelerNation is a huge, extended family, and I hoped we could collectively show one of the younger members we care about them as people, not just as athletes and performers.

That theme has gone around the site recently, and I want to ask all of you to show Sanders and his family the kind of support fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers will give its players.

Drop him a line on Facebook or Twitter, let him know we’re behind him during a horribly difficult time. Whether the Steelers win or lose Sunday, whether Sanders plays or not, we should always remember the bigger picture, and do our part to help those in our communities.

The last line of his Facebook message is so true

I lost my Dad a year ago, so I can relate to what he’s probably experiencing right now. Keep strong, Sanders. I don’t know you personally, but I will think about you.

I'm sorry Mr. Sanders

It’s so hard to lose a mom. I lost mine almost two years ago this month. My prayers are for your family’s peace and comfort. God bless.

Peace be with you and your family Emmanuel

It is always painful to those left behind but always bear in mind that she will always be watching over you and will always be with you if you keep her in your heart.

Take the time you need to mourn, Mr. Sanders

As most people ultimately will, I’ve had some experience with losing parents, and I know that nothing can completely fill the void that losing a parent creates. Kind words, thoughts, and prayers can serve to remind you that you’re not alone in your grief — and I offer those now — but you may need to take some time to sort through and make sense of the feelings of mourning, loss, confusion, perhaps anger, and whatever other emotions your mother’s passing stirs up. Cherish the memories you have of your mother, reminisce about her with loved ones, let flow the tears (and the laughter about the good times, for surely that will come), and please take some comfort, solace, and support in the knowledge that so many people, including strangers like me, are keeping you in their thoughts and prayers. It’s a cliche, but only because it’s true: Time will help you heal. Whether you choose to spend that time with your teammates or you decide that you need to concentrate on your family for a little while, please rest assured that the pain will begin to subside over the coming weeks and months, and one day, your happy memories of your mother will outweigh the sadness you feel now. May your mother rest in peace.
