I wanted to share with everyone my 2012 4 round Mock Draft and get your feedback on the Steelers picks. While I'm a Redskins fan first and foremost (pity me), I have strong ties to the Western Pa area, as both of my parents are from there and I still have some family up there. The Steelers are definitely my number 2 team (and usually the only team I can root for in the post season), and I'm a Pitt Panthers and Penguins fan. Anyways as I said I'd love to get the fans point of view on my mock draft. You can view my entire draft here! Where you can look at what players I didn't go with as well as some write-ups for the first round: Any and all feed back is appreciated!
1st Round: NT Josh Chapman, Alabama
My take: Casey Hampton is getting up there in age and Chapman can be his understudy for a year or two and then take over the fulltime gig. The Steelers win because of their defense and Chapman helps keep them elite.
2nd Round: OG Ben Jones, Alabama
My Take: Offensive line is still among the Steelers biggest weaknesses. I know Colon is out and Gilbert could move inside, but Pittsburgh could use Jones at the other guard spot (to have a really exceptional O-line), or if Colon doesn't return as quickly, Gilbert can stay outside.
3rd Round: ILB Audie Cole, NC State
My Take: James Farrior can't play forever and might have one more year after this season at best. While Foote is a solid backup, he's 30+ and is by no means a lock to start long term. Cole is a guy who I think could develop into a starter.
4th Round: SS Harrison Smith, Notre Dame
My Take: Troy Polamalu is the heart and soul of that defense, but they could use some depth there. Harrison is a great leader and in the box type of safety, while he could never replace Troy, he could help minimize some of the talent drop off if Polamalu was out. Smith could also be a valuable ST type of player as well.
Let me know what you guys think!
