The Steelers announced the signing of LB Mortty Ivy to the practice squad, and with it, the release of WR Jamar Newsome.

Ivy has been up and down with the Steelers this season, having been activated for the Steelers' Week 8 game against New England. He was released on Nov. 9.

Newsome was signed on Nov. 9, after having been cut from Jacksonville's practice squad Sept. 20. Newsome, an undrafted 2011 free agent from Central Florida, made the Jaguars opening-day roster, appeared in two games without logging a reception (most played on special teams) but was released and hasn't spent time anywhere other than Jacksonville and Pittsburgh.

Ivy, who incidentally visited with the Jaguars after being released by the Steelers but was not signed, was expected to re-sign with the club eventually. Prior to this year, Ivy, an undrafted free agent in 2009, has spent time with Miami, Carolina and St. Louis.
