Why the running game is so important

I think we're all 50/50 on this new passing concept that we've gone too. Looks real flashy with Brown, Wallace, Cotchery, Miller, Ward, and Sanders playing catch. However, the running game is so important to the success of the passing game and not vice versa, why?:

1. Our offensive line is not the most mobile line in the NFL especially with Pouncey being out (BTW, don't think about playing him until the playoffs). I dobn't know who's worse Trai or Kemo, I'd rather have Jamon Meredith at Guard.

2. Running at the defensive line and LB's keeps them on their heel and tires them out. Which reduces the energy to generate a pass rush.

3. Enhances our play action, which opens up our deep pass game by freezing the defense if we're gashing them with the run game.

Finally, Mendenhall's vision on selecting the right hole is iffy at best. I'm looking forward to Byron Batch next year. Love Redman, but his speed is severly lacking.
