Oh how I hate watching the NFL on Fox...

I know that this year Fox network will be hosting Superbowl 45, and I can't be more disappointed.

I can't stand watching games on this channel for many reasons.

  1. That damn dancing robot, seriously
  2. Tony Siragusa has absolutely nothing to add that is of any importance to game
  3. Fox makes it seem like the game was played 5 years ago with their subpar special effects and graphics, slow game replays, and that old tune they play right before every commercial break and even after every commercial break. If you don't know which tune I'm talking about, you'll know soon enough.
  4. That damn dancing robot, wtf
  5. Troy Aikman & Joe Buck = dull in a box
  6. NFC games have nothing to do with the Steelers. And the premier Fox games usually feature Brett Favre vs whoever every week. Hopefully he'll stay retired this time
  7. Did I mention that damn dancing robot?

                                                     Images_medium

Maybe I'm being a little harsh. But the only thing Fox got right was having Mike Pereirra immediately accessible for comments controversial official rulings during games.

Nonetheless, I'd much rather watch the Pittsburgh Steelers play on Fox, in the Superbowl, for their 7th Lombardi, than watch any other two teams play on an All-Star television network.

is the only good thing they got going, I can’t for a call to come up in the Super Bowl that favors the Steelers and they go to Mike and he goes this is the correct call…. should have had him there 6 years ago.

They have the best HD channel Ive seen thus far and do a really good job with their replay-showing. Fox loves showing guys standing on the sidelines after a play, while their dull commentators talk about what happened in the last play- Just show the damn thing!

The robot is undoubtably dumb, but what really kills me is that is never changes. They created 5 animations for it years ago and they keep reusing them again and again. You’d think they could manage one new animation every once in a while. I’d tolerate them if there was at least some novelty to them. And if you can’t make new ones every once in a while, you shouldn’t make any at all. It just looks lazy.

Fox is awful

After what they paid for the rights to the games, you’d think they’d invest in some technology to improve the experience. A few years ago, they refused to pay some exorbitant fee for the first down line, and instead came up with their own, which they painted on the closest yard marker to the first down — so it was off by as much as two feet in either direction. It was the most infuriating thing to watch imaginable. So you think you have a first down? Naah, it’s because we painted the first down line 2 feet shy so we could save a few bucks. Would have been better just to not have one.

I don’t mind NBC or CBS, and I think the people who think Simms is a steeler-hater are looking for trouble (you know the old saying, if you look for it long enough, you’ll find it).

ESPN’s broadcast “group” is annoying and too chatty, but their presentation of the game is good.

Really, I think TBS could do a better job broadcasting a football game using their basketball announcers.

Simms,

near the end of the Jets regular season game, on the play where Wallace was blatantly held while going deep and yet there was no call, he completely downplayed it, hardly saying a thing, even during the replay that clearly showed the hold. I’m not saying he should have jumped out of his chair like a homer, but c’mon, it was huge no-call and his reaction implicitly muzzled its significance. That was awful.

by NCSteeler on Feb 2, 2011 9:05 AM EST up reply actions

You have to take his whole broadcasting career as a whole, but I’ve noticed the same thing – at least with Roethlisberger. He usually likes the steelers defense though. On nfl network he says Rodgers better pick to start a franchise around, and Ben as it stands won’t be considered in the top five super bowl quarterbacks because he’s just not a good passer.

Not a good passer? Wining percentage, yards per throw, completion percentage, three rings (hopefully)…. Uhm, maybe he forgot how to look up statistics?

Packers fans hate Fox too

But we’re happy that it’s Buck and Aikman calling this game.

Certainly not because of their skill in the booth, because they are awful. But they’ve called every game of our 5 game stretch – the games against the Giants and Bears to get into the playoffs, then all three playoff games. Sort of a good luck charm to have their excruciatingly dull banter coming from the booth.

And I agree with the others on CBS, both in booth and in the pre-game crowd. The Fox pre-game is just awful. Just a bunch of guys laughing at each other when none of them has said anything funny.

For 40 years my choice for audio for Steelers games has been the Steeler broadcast team on the radio turned up and the TV volume turned down.

Thanks to the internet that’s still possible for me whether I’m in Seattle or anywhere else.

All those network bums give me heartburn.
But I enjoy listening to Bill Hillgrove, Tunch Ilkin and Craig Wolfley. And this year we even had some Stan Savran doing half time updates and post game.

not necessarily which one you listen to.
