The Steelers need to seriously consider the risks involved by continuing their game of chicken with cornerback Ike Taylor . By no means , am I saying that Ike is the second coming of Mel Blount or Rod Woodson . However , Ike is the best cover corner we currently have on the roster . If the Steelers lose him in free agency , whats left ? Bryant Mcfadden is average and nothing more . William Gay is a decent run supporter but as a cover corner he is beaten like a drum everytime he lines up in pass coverage . The two backups , Crezdon Butler and Keenan Lewis are basically unknowns and unproven . Both have been on the roster for more than one season and neither has done anything to this point . Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers has proven the way to beat the Steelers is spread the defense out and force them into downfield pass coverage . The Steelers have shown they cannot do it consistently and that inability just cost them their chance at a seventh Super Bowl championship againt the Packers . The team has a chance to address this through the draft but in the meantime they cannot afford to lose the best cornerback they currently have . If this should happen and we lose Ike Taylor this team is probably looking no better than a 9 - 7 record in 2011 . Lets all hope that is not the case .
