The Steeler Nation Knows............some thoughts of mine

So who will win the Super Bowl today?  I can't speak to all the qualities of the Green Bay Packers other than I know they are a talented team with a good QB and strong defense.   But I am a Pittsburgher who now lives in Fort Worth and therefore am a Steeler fan.  What I know is this.  Being a Steeler fan is more than just rooting for a football team.  It is following a history of a team that had it share of years that had more losses than wins and players that no one remembers.  But the Rooney family believed it was possible to build a team that would win but to do that it would take patience, it would take bringing in young talent from colleges that were not well known-for example young Joe Greene from UNT in Denton and it would take staying strong to dedication to win.  It would mean having faith in a coach and allowing him time to mold and build players who would start out as raw talent but who would go on to be in the Hall of Fame.  It would model the city the team was from which in itself was going through a transition from being a working man's town that made Steel to a town that would find another way to succeed once those mills closed down.  The city did and so did the team.  Once the Steeler's started winning the city itself came alive and the fans found that they not only loved the team but loved what the winning represented.  Hard work, persistence, getting back up when one was down and not giving up even if the score is against you with only seconds on the clock.  The Rooney family knows that by placing all those Lombardi Trophies out where the coach and players see them that nothing is expected of the Steelers other than their best.  And their best is to be where they are right now-at the Super Bowl.  The Steeler Nation is every where now as those who moved away from Pittsburgh did not leave their love of the Black and Gold behind.  They took that love of team with them just as they took their blue collar values with them.  So the Steeler Nation will tell you that the Pittsburgh Steelers will win this today.   They will hoist that trophy that represents number 7 and thank the fans that stand behind them but who also let them know when they have let them down as that is what Steeler fans do.  And if, by chance, the Packers pull it off and win, well then the  Steeler Nation will still cheer their team.  And know the Steelers will be back.  Winning in Pittsburgh is not an option-it is the expectation.   I thank God that I have that heritage and that now my children have it.
 GO STEELERS!!!!
