Cornerback Draft Prospects

Draft day is around the corner, beginning Thursday April 28 2011.  The NFL has turned the first picks into a primetime spectacle and will start the non-stop combine coverage any day now.

Here are two athletes I think Steelers fans should keep a watchful eye on.

Brandon Burton University of Utah

6'0 185 4.49 (CBS Sports)

Curtis Brown Texas

6'0 180 4.42 (CBS Sports)

Both athletes are projected 2-3 Rounders on CBS Sports.  Bleacher Report projects the same for Burton claiming:

Burton is not a first round talent, as there's some distance between him and the top of the cornerback class (LSU's Peterson, Nebraska's Prince).

But he seems bound for a 2nd or 3rd round spot, which usually still means a big role in an NFL defense right away. He probably falls into the territory of Texas CB Aaron Williams, and Burton will need a good showing at the combine to potentially increase his stock.

Brown is touted as as leader in the Longhorns secondary and it is said he will be missed as he has decided to move on to the NFL.

What do we know about the development of Keenan Lewis and Crezdon Butler?  Do you think we will turn to

the draft to acquire the depth needed at this position or will we go the opposite direction and try to mend via

free agency.  I highly doubt the latter as it's not The Steelers MO but it makes for conversation.
