MaLoR plays a pretty good Man With No Name

Those old movies, beginning with "A Fistfull of Dollars", are the very definition of classic western.  The first installment, based on the old japanese movie "Yojimbo", follows the Man With No Name (Clint Eastwood) as he masterfully plays two warring factions off against each other.  He is good, make that great, with a gun, and so each side tries very hard to get him on their side, and the Man is even better at convincing each side that he is their ally.  In the end, the Man goads and tricks both sides into killing each other off, which appears to have been the Man's goal in the first place.

Now our friend Mr. MaLoR, unlike the Man / Clint Eastwood, certainly doesn't hold himself out as a neutral party; he is clearly a Raven for life, he's a guy who's loyalties we respect even if they are different from ours,.  He's shown himself to be a levelheaded gentlemen who knows his football and is quite capable of objectively viewing his own team.  His exchanges on BTSC are very well known, and he has largely been embraced by the regulars here (including myself).

And yet, this is the kind of sentiment that he will occasionally post on "the other side of town" (BB):

__________

Glad to see a town like GB get back to where they belong. They are a pure fanbase and pure franchise, unlike the Steeler Wagon that pollutes even our great city of Baltimore.

To all the Steeler fans, you guys didn’t accomplish anything this year. 2nd place is the first loser. It was oh so satisfying seeing Harrison walk out with his head down and knowing that Ben was crying after the game. Hines Ward is a loser. You suck Pittsburgh and your time is running out…..very soon.

__________

(see "Ravens-Packers Difference? 4th Quarter Points").

Um, harsh?.  I read this and ask myself, "Does MaLoR truly feel this way?  Or does he believe, as he has stated on this blog many times before, that the Steelers are a genuinely good team?"  Doesn't seem possible that he could believe both of these things, certainly they seem mutually exclusive of each other.

After thinking about it, I believe that MaLoR actually does respect, if grudgingly, the Steelers franchise.  I also believe that he generally respects the other members of BTSC and is more than willing to engage in exchanges with them.  I don't think he really believes that the Steelers suck, as he states in his above post.  I don't think he really believes Hines Ward is a loser (despite almost certainly hating/disliking No. 86).  I don't believe he is some double-agent Man With No Name who has ulterior motives during his time here on BTSC.

But if not, then why say these things that are clearly contrary to other things he's posted here that are complimentary of the Steelers?  The amateur psychologist in me says: Mr. MaLoR feels genuinely compelled to say these things on BB as a card-carrying member of that blog.  The Ravens, after all, his first (and only) allegiance, which we respect.  Perhaps it is unseemly for a member of BB to be perceived as overly sympathetic/friendly/buddy-buddy with "the enemy", in which case there might be some compulsion to occasionally, you know, let your fellow Baltimore fans know that you're no wussy.

What a fine line the Man With No Name had to walk to accomplish his purposes!  What a fine line Mr. MaLoR must have to walk in order to maintain a professional and courteous relationship with the members of an archrival team's blog fans without turning off his fellow Ravens fans!  IMO, MaLoR is as deserving of an academy as Mr. Eastwood himself.
