BTSC 2011 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 2 -- Denver Broncos Select Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
The second pick of the 2011 BTSC Community Mock Draft is in, and a second player from the state of Alabama is off the board. Many thanks to Cannon36 for the timely pick and informative writeup. Next up: Buffalo Bills represented by steelerstyle. -Michael B.-

With the #2 selection, the Broncos select - Marcell Dareus DT Alabama
Dareus is the most complete defensive lineman in this draft and he will fill a major need for the Broncos, a team with a great many holes that need filled. The fact that a player Marcell's size is able to get off the line so explosively makes this an easy pick for Denver. He immediately gives Denver a huge improvement in the pass rush, which the Broncos completely lacked since Elvis Dumervil went down. Many people have questioned his ability on run defense, but to see him play tells another story, he does a great job tackling, wrapping hard and working straight through the man, driving them to the ground. John Fox has always acknowledged the importance of the defensive line and picking Dareus with this pick would fit in with his defensive style. Patrick Peterson would also be a good fit for Denver, but with their improving young safeties and resigning of Champ Bailey, the defensive backfield seems to have fewer holes than the defensive line.

Not to be a hater
but isn’t your analysis of him backwards? As a 319 pound 3-4 DE (and a guy I have seen every game of his career) as well as reading a few draft analyses, who is questioning his ability to stop the run?

Pretty Surprised with the Dareus pick
He is actually the friend of a friend, and I hear he is a fantastic guy with a great work ethic, but Im still surprised you think he is the best defensive player for the Broncos. I actually think they take Peterson to give Bailey a replacement in a few years, and until then have one of the best secondaries in the NFL. Dareus will make a great pro, I just dont see him ending up here.
This is an interesting draft so far. I doubt either of these first two guys will be taken in these spots, but it makes for an interesting snowball effect for the rest of us.

The draft does not play as they are mocked
Noone expected Alualu as the 10th pick. I remember i was in Denver on a layover, saying what! We also do not have to see it as our FO but the respective teams we are reppin.
"Franco made that play because he never quit on the play. He kept running, he kept hustling. Good things happen to people who hustle."
I understand that
I would just find it very hard to believe that these would be the first two picks.

The case for my pick
i went to cat scratch reader and asked some of their members. I also asked an old buddy from work what he thought.
but its all good. I just hope one of these top players drop some spots so the Steelers can have a realistic option to trade up

I think the Steelers will have options to trade up
And I hope they do. But it will be for Pouncey or one of the better CB’s (not names Amukamara or Peterson).

Going by Colbert’s draft history you have to assume there WILL be trade, up/down is the only question.
up / down are the only options

what if he wants to go side to side
Players who should be in the Hall of Fame: Pat TIllman, Dwight White, Donnie Shell, L.C. Greenwood, Ray Guy, Steve Tasker, Jack Butler, Greg Llyod, Andy Russel, Cris Carter, Kevin Greene, Curtis Martin, Willie Roaf, Andre Reed and Jerry Kramer

lol
draft order does not go side to side

I like this pick
John Fox in his first year chose a DE from UNC. He can go back to that old bag and chose Quinn from UNC there as his stock is improving, but I dont see that happening.
We all know in Defense you build towards the middle out. Without Hampton taking on 2 Linemen, we wouldnt be able to have Willie Gay breaking loose on a CB Blitz, or Farrior and Timmons bustin thru the middle on a delay blitz.
Great pick choosing Dareus over Fairley, as Dareus’ line of work exceeds Fairley in the tough ess-see-cee

Since I will be representing my favorite team
I will be selecting based on what the team would in that situation. We could honestly either take a DE, QB, or CB in the 1st depending on who is there. I also highly doubt these would ever be the 1st 2 picks in the draft.
I CAN DO ALL THINGS THRU CHRIST, WHO STRENGTHENS ME!!!
As a Bronco fan,
I like the pick. Dareus should be the guy. Then, in the second round, Kyle Rudolph and either another DT or a MLB should be the guy.
I like the pick, but I dont think it happens
Peterson goes #2 for me
A long way from Pittsburgh PA, in fact, 8653.2 miles to be precise. My blood still bleeds black and gold like the rest of Steeler Nation, proud fan since 2002.

Nice Pick!
I’d be ecstatic with either Peterson or Darius personally. BTW, I’m the Steelers rep for the Broncos’ SB nation community mock so I’ll try to rep y’all as best as I can.
