BTSC 2011 Community Mock Draft Pick No. 19 -- New York Giants Select Akeem Ayers, LB, UCLA

Tip of the cap to paulamalu for his prompt selection at No. 19. We're moving along at a ncie enough clip where we could consider continuing on to Round 2 if we're collectively interested. Let's see how things progress this next week or so though first. Next up:the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, represented by Bringin' the Wood(ley). - Michael B. -

***************

From what I hear from Big Blue View, the Giants' biggest need is at OL and CB, very similar to our situation. Some say that they need to go in the trenches, get a stud O-lineman and protect Eli. I somewhat concur, but what I've seen from our beloved Steelers, you can can still make still make it to the big dance with a sub-par O-line. No excuses, even if Eli isn't Big Ben. Anyways, that's besides the point. I'm saying that as much as people believe that the Giants will jump for joy at the fact that Anthony Castonzo from Boston College is still on the board, they will pick up AKEEM AYERS, linebacker from UCLA instead.

Sure, both starting tackles on the Giants, Harvey Diehl and Kareem McKenzie may be on the wrong side of 30. Sure, young William Beatty still might not have potential to fill their shoes. I still think, you have to go with defense. Why? I'm a defensive minded guy, and defense wins championships, right? Looking back at the previous first-round draft picks, 4 out of the 5 previous years' picks have been on the defensive side of the ball. I think it's safe to say, the Giants share the same philosophy I do.

Furthermore, Ayers has the potential to start from day one. He, aside from Von Miller, is the only quality linebacker, worthy enough to be taken in the first round. He can replace an aging Keith Bullock, and give the Giants the beastly strongside linebacker they need. I think Ayers would be a perfect for the Giants. Who knows, drafting him may be the first step to having a defense reminiscent of the great "Big Blue Wrecking Crew" that Lawrence Taylor dominated in the 80s.

First called first served

On a special post

I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

Next year

Just check the site every day in March. If you are here regularly, you will see the post for BTSC’s mock draft. Then in the comments just say which team you want, obviously check to make sure it hasn’t been taken in the comments before.

Don’t bother trying to get the Steelers, they are either the first picked or decided before by Michael, or God or something.

Just pick a team you like, or hate, and try and get there first! Good luck.

Im not convinced

That the Giants go for a pass rush threat, again. I think OL or possibly a CB/Safety pick is more likely.

Actually he's not a pass rushing threat

Otherwise we would fighting Von Miller for best 3-4 OLB prospect. In thier scheme he’d add some talent to a slow LB core

Good point

It could happen. Im just of the mind they would prefer someone outside their front 7. But Im not as sure about that as I think I am about a lot of other draft slots.

The only others I consider for them

are Jimmy Smith, Tyson Smith, and Pouncey. They are stacked otherwise

They'd take Costanzo or Pouncey, I think.

Don’t really need help with their front 7, and Ayers is slower than the other guys. If they want a linebacker there are better options in the 2nd round, like Herzlich or Martez Wilson
