2011 Combine Final Results: Three-Cone Drill, 20-Yard Shuttle, 60-Yard Shuttle
I posted the results on Sunday after the offensive players had worked out. On Monday and Tuesday, NFL Draft hopefuls from the defensive side of the ball took center stage. It's not a complete list of how each participant fared, performance, but here are the Top Performers by position in three of the seven workouts conducted at the Scouting Combine each year -- the three-cone drills, and the 20 and 60-yard shuttles.

Your Opinion
Tell me what is your analysis of how we should draft: (1) If we can get a top shelf OL. (2) If we cant get that top shelf OL who should we seek? What is your opinion of getting a CB via FA? I will give you mine. FA CB or CB and S. Round 1 if we can get Mike Pouncey or an equivalent – take him. If not go defensive and take Phil Taylor if he is available, If not take Marvin Austin. Round 2 take the best talented DE’s (this draft is loaded with them). Round 3 take either one of the overlooked OL’s or S’s. Round 4 either Deion Lewis or Noel Devine (if Jeff Demps is in draft consider him) as a 3rd down back/K returner Round 5 Hynosky from Pitt as the Bruiser of a FB that we need. I honestly feel that we should have a solid O line if we sign Colon, so we can go for youth on defense. We have got to find an understudy for Troy and Casey. This defense that we have can be the best EVER if we get decent signings for CB via FA. Our O line showed that we have depth, and with one years experience under their belt, they will only get better. There are also intangibles that I could suggest on the O line, but at a later time. I know that I am going to get a lot of flack on this, but I think that we could win it all next year if these selections come to fruition.
I'm not exactly sure
Sure, there’s a LOT of top-quality linemen; four or five of them are right around equal at the top (Carimi, Solder, Sherrod, Castonzo, T. Smith). However, the top end of this class has a bunch of solid DBs as well, and ignoring them completely when it’s a clear need (as Ike pushes towards FA) would be downright silly, considering the FA market is very questionable this year (due to CBA issues/Champ Bailey signing with the Broncos). I think 1 + 2 should be some combination of OL/CB or CB/OL. DE isn’t as big a need, and we’ve always relied on taking high character guys mid-draft to fill up those spots. A fast RB, while exciting, will push Redman out of our backfield, and Redman’s shown potential already. A FB, while great in theory, won’t help our offense, since we run a lot out of ace-back sets. In all, if this were my Madden team, I’d be perfectly okay with your draft/free agency. Unfortunately, this isn’t Madden, and considering Steelers policy in the past couple of years, you could see the logic behind it.
Logic
There IS a lot of logic in what you say. I would NEVER want to see us part with Redman. I would gladly forget the idea of a fast 3rd down back. But I was frustrated so many times by us not making 3rd and short this past season. I would blame it on play calling more so than our lack of talented runners. Then Kemo pulled a couple of “bonehead” moves. I DO think that Redman was underused on these short yardage plays and also alternating him as a change of pace to Mendy. I still like this kid Hynosky from Pitt. He is a stud who can block and also pick up 2 or 3 yards when called upon to do so. But I do think that we NEED to find the DE who will be able to understudy Keisel and be a capable replacement for him. Look what Ziggy did this year by being mentored by AS. Also, Troy will not be around forever. I really liked this DE from Nevada, Dontay Moch, He was fast as lightning – faster than most CB’s and some WR’s) Let him learn from Troy as a replacement. Check him out and see if you agree with me. Will not make it as a DE or OLB I think he could be a natural emulating Troy. I believe he is also a hard hitter. Still think we can get that better than average cover FA CB that we covet. But, I trust our decision makers to make wise choices in this draft. Look what they did last year.
Can't see a FA CB
With the geezer in Oakland paying Stanford Routt (who?) 10M to sign as a FA, outright dementia has beset the FA CB market. I can’t see the Steelers going there for anything of value…they have enough on their hands w/Ike and their other FA’s.
"We have met the enemy and he is us" - Pogo (1970)
Ike will be signed...
Now we need to sign Colon. IMO a high quality FA Cover CB is a must for us. It is our only weak link in one of (if not THE) best defenses ever. We owe it to Dick Le Beau and the Defensive players who played their hearts out last year, only to be burned by nickel and dime passes (from Brees and Brady especially) into our soft underbelly caused by fear of getting beat long. We need to re-negotiate contracts to make this happen. Our Offensive line though beat up, played admirably. Fully staffed this year, they will provide Ben with the time he needs to get the ball downfield. This team is too talented to finish second.
The only top shelf O-line we could get in a good year any way is a guard
so discount that completely. As said before many times we will take BPA ranging from Brandon Harris, Jonathan Baldwin, Adrian Clayborn, Derek Sherrod, J.J. Watt, Mike Pouncey, Rahim Moore, Phil Taylor, and Muhammad Wilkerson; depending upon whos there at the time and what postion is more higly rated on our board.
As FA don’t count on it. Of the 3 previous 6 SB teams 5 of them built through the draft. It is most likely that any FA we pick up will be a Memelde Moore type not the Adrain Peterson type you guys want.
I'm getting tired of saying this: Dick LeBeau’s system is so complex very few rookies can make an impact.

Austin is intriguing, makes you wonder if our staff could get his head out of his a$$.
It would take a FA CB and Butler pushing Gay out of the picture, but I see no reason we wouldn’t have a great shot at winning a ring next year with those moves.
Austin
First I would love to see us get Phil Taylor as our #1 pick. If not – We have enough vets to keep Austin in line. First he needs to sit down with Mr Rooney and let him explain what Steeler ball is all about. Next let the vets counsel him intensely. Then push him hard to push Casey for some minutes AND respect Casey’s advice on playing that position. Want to see the DB’s match the LB’s with accolades. Waiting for us (probably in vain) to announce a blockbuster FA CB signing. With this and my draft choices, there is NO doubt that our D will be the best EVER.
I had no idea Skrine performed that well
I got to find some film of him.
