Before I take 1 to 2 months off I figured I would delve into the 2012 classes of CB, ILB, and OT. After these 3 posts plus my grading the draft series, I will be taking a month to two, maybe more of rarely contriubuting. Without further ado, here is my early analysis on the CB class. The 2012 CB class is going to be even better and deeper than the 2011 corner class. It features 8 potential first round picks. EIGHT!
1. Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama: Height: 6'3" Weight: 192
Kirkpatrick has the physical tools of Patrick Peterson but needs to put them to good use. With a strong season this year, he could be a top 5 pick. With an average season, a late first round pick.
2. Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina: Height: 6'1" Weight: 194
Gilmore is another physical corner that is also a ball hawk. With a strong season he is a top 10 pick and with an average season he is a late first rounder.
3. Cliff Harris, CB, Oregon: Height: 5'11" Weight: 165
Harris reminds me a lot of Brandon Harris. He has great ball skills and blankets his receivers in man coverage, but due to his size he could fall out of the 1st round. He has top 15 talent.
4. Omar Bolden, CB, Arizona State: Height: 5'10" Weight: 195
Bolden has great zone coverage skills and would be a great fit in the Steelers defense. He is a top 20 pick with a good season and if he falls to the late first round it would be a great fit for the Steelers.
5. Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska: Height: 5'10" Weight: 205
Dennard is as physical a corner as they come. He could have declared this year but chose to return for his Senior year. He is a 1st round pick but his range is unknown yet. I think he will be a late first rounder.
6. Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia: Height: 6'0" Weight: 185
Chase is a better player than Dowling was at UVA and doesn't have injury concerns. He, like Dowling, is a great scheme fit for the Steelers and should be a late first round pick.
7. Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington: Height: 6'0" Weight: 177
Trufant is also a great zone player but I expect him to return for his Senior season after this year because of the depth at corner. He is a late first to early 2nd round player right now.
8. Josh Robinson, CB, Central Florida: Height: 5'10" Weight: 192
Robinson had a great Sophomore season and if he follows it up with another good season, he will be a first round pick.
Well there is a very brief look at CB prospects for 2012.
