As a huge fan of BSC, I often pondered when I would contribute my first post here in Steeler's cyberspace. I never thought my first post would be non football related although. I would like to note a few disclaimers about myself first, if I may. I'm not a professional writer, I'm not a God fearing man although I feel I should be, and by all accounts a man who has a decent head on his shoulders and tries to live by the golden rule.
I for one agree with the statement Mr. Mendenhall made about celebrating a death. When news first broke about the notorious Bin lad din's death; and then reading comments posted about the historic moment from many publications. I can say I felt sad for mankind in a certain unexplainable way. I can understand the hatred for such a person, For what I have read about the man, he appears to have what so many people in our world, and our own country has and that's pure bitterness in his heart. And it appears he has acted out his bitterness in the worst possible way with murder. I for one do not know him personally, and with the many scandals committed and out right fraudulent acts perpetuated by our own government, I do not believe everything our government tells us. What I do know is that there are educated and respected individuals who believe that Bin lad din was not responsible for the acts of September. So much so the main stream media carried this movement for a time. If so inclined you can do your own research and form your own opinion. But this article is not about political views, or conspiracy's. This article is about Why Mr. Mendenhall should be praised.
Mr Rooney, comments to Mr. Mendenhalls tweet in my opinion where nothing more than the usual politically correct response, and were not aliened with the perceived character of the steelers. You know the response, we here it all the time, how the troops are doing a wonderful job and how proud we are of their sacrifice. Please note I have much admiration for our soldiers as they are doing a job that most people would not want to do. And most Im sure do there job at the very lest well. But Im positive all do not do their jobs well and just with civilians I am sure you can deduct that some of them you and I would not be proud of. Before you are so inclined to believe the worst of me, note I was outraged to read of the horrible conditions at Walter reed hospital and voiced my opinion. I also believe that soldiers who work in an active war should never have to pay taxes again. Mr Rooney, our beloved Steeler's are beloved in part of what our team stands for. I personally never interpreted Mr. Mendenhalls comments as unpatriotic, insensitive to the victims of September 11th, or sympathetic to a perceived killer. Mr Rooney, death is an ugly sometimes horrific experience, and I for one dont celebrate any death, and if we are jumping up and down in main street, times square, or bourban street I ask are we any better than the men we demonize in the middle east celebrating one of our own's death.
signed, hope for the return of morality
