Grettings Steeler Nation! Hope everyone enjoyed their weekends. The Pittsburgh Steelers preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles surely got you in good spirits for the weekend. This week is an important one as the Steelers must trim their roster down to 80 players on Tuesday in advance of their third (and typically most important) preseason game.
IX - I am previewing each of the Steelers three AFC North foes this next few weeks over at SB Nation Pittsburgh. The first, a look at the Cleveland Browns, was published Monday morning. I'll revisit the Browns in separate post(s) here at BTSC, but I'm starting to believe that Cleveland will be in the mix in the North once the calendar turns to November. That's quite a favorable schedule for the young Browns to start the new year.
X - James Walker just filed his AFC North Stock Watch. See which players and units are on the rise and decline in the eyes of ESPN's AFC North blogger.
XIII - Scott Brown has a few roster related notes to start the week including the likely return of Aaron Smith early this week; the status of Marcus Gilbert's knee; and a progress report on Hines Ward's return to playing shape.
XIV - Not a whole lot of Steelers commentary this week, but for a good look at the rest of the NFL landscape, this week's Monday Morning Quarterback column is a worthwhile read.
XL - Steelers Lounge takes a crack at projecting Pittsburgh's 53-man roster.
XLIII - NBC's property Versus, previously known for it's NHL coverage, will debut a new show called 'NFL Turning Point' on Thursday, September 15th. Here's the premise from the official press release:
Every game has a turning point and NFL Films and the NBC Sports Group are partnering to cover that crucial moment for football fans in a more in-depth way than ever before by launching a new one-hour program, NFL Turning Point, that will air weekly on VERSUS during the NFL regular season. It is the first NFL program ever to air on VERSUS, which will be re-named the NBC Sports Network on January 2.
Bonus link: Nice piece this morning by Neal Coolong about the Steelers and the possibility of acquiring Terrelle Pryor in today's Supplemental Draft. In case you were wondering on how exactly the Supplemental Draft works, here's a quick overview. The Draft is currently underway, and to no one's surprise, there was no action in Round 1.
