Steelers Cuts Complete - Three More Released
Steelers Digest is reporting the Steelers made the final three cuts to get their roster to 80 - WR Terrence McCray, CB Niles Brinkley and OLB Chris Ellis. Along with Anthony Gray, the Steelers are now in compliance with the league mandate to have rosters at 80 by 4 p.m. ET today.
Brinkley, McCray and Gray were undrafted rookies. Ellis played in 15 games over the past three seasons with Buffalo after the Bills selected him in the third round of the 2008 draft out of Virginia Tech.
McCray had one catch for 10 yards this preseason. Brinkley had three tackles and Gray had two.

no real surprises
I hope they can catch on somewhere.

you werent even a little suprised by gray?
there was talk of him even making the 53 by some people. at the least i expected him to make it past the first cut and possibly make the PS
Gray
I meant the others. I heard about Gray in an earlier thread. I thought we would hang on to him till the last.

Gray was the only one that shocked me
but the other cuts I was expecting
Players who should be in the Hall of Fame: Pat TIllman, Dwight White, Donnie Shell, L.C. Greenwood, Ray Guy, Steve Tasker, Jack Butler, Greg Lloyd, Andy Russell, Cris Carter, Kevin Greene, Curtis Martin, Willie Roaf, Andre Reed and Jerry Kramer

Shocked by Gray's early cut, but...
not by the fact that he was cut. He is an intriguing physical specimen and folks on here were jumping all over that, plus our perceived need for a new NT now! Maybe he can catch on with the Raiders! LOL

maybe he will be able to sneak through and get on the PS

Maybe, but...
you know that Davis is salivating over those 39 bench reps @225 lbs! LOL! I think the DL spot on the PS probably goes to Corbin Bryant, who has actually shown some promise.

Depends on how fast he was running
While bench pressing. If he didn’t hit at least 4.4 or lower then Davis won’t take him!

I assumed he would take 2-3 years
so starting working on him now would make sense.

makes sense to me
Hoke is an experienced back up who proves to get the job done even on 1st and 2nd down when needed. With Ziggy and Cam, we have quality extra DL to go around if both Casey and Hoke should be injured at the same time. I think next year we will invest an early round if not even a 1st round pick on a NT.

Not to belabor the point......
but I thought Gray was possibly at the top of the list for the PS……..maybe they get to resign him, prob. not.
Actually, with the new practice rules likely taking some of the wear and tear off Hamp and Hoke, and with the versatile, 25-yr old McLendon pretty highly regarded…….there may be less need for Gray? Still……………
So much for Tony
Two sources confirm that Doug Legursky will start the season as the #Steelers starting right guard.

They love his smarts
Legursky is allegedly even smarter than Pouncey (I’ll see if I can find the article again where I read that). But his brute strength does leave something to be desired and that’s why Foster was moved in after – he’s bigger and stronger.

Found it
Buried in an article that was (mostly) about Tony Hills:
The Steelers are not giving up on their other two holdovers at right guard — Ramon Foster, who started the final 10 games of the 2010 season; and Doug Legursky, who started four games there last season.
But they would like to find a player who is a hybrid of both.
Legursky is the smartest offensive lineman on the team — even more so than center Maurkice Pouncey — but he is also the smallest (6-1, 315). He might start at left guard against the Eagles if Chris Kemoeatu, who returned Monday to team drills at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, is held out.
Foster (6-6, 325) replaced Legursky for the final 10 games last season because the Steelers wanted a bigger body to cover a defensive tackle in the 4-3 fronts used by the other teams in the AFC North Division, especially the Baltimore Ravens.

He starting at RG for the Carolina game...

And maybe the front runner for the starting RG spot but it is his to lose to against the Panthers. If he comes out and plays bad I think it is Hills as the starter.
completely unrelated
Is there not going to be meet the steelers/panthers fans threads for the next game?
