A debacle 8 months in the making

I honestly believe that the Ravens, especially once confronted with the Steelers at home to open the season, literally spent the entire offseason studying nothing but film on the Black and Gold, and basically schemed this game out for 3-4 months, including their off-season pick-ups. they have come to realize that Pittsburgh has literally been THE roadblock to the SB for them, and they're doing everything they can to make sure that doesn't happen again. Meanwhile, the Steelers changed nothing, resting in the classic "don't change a winning game" mentality (which I understand), and severely underestimated Baltimore's desperation to get over the hump and beat us with both clubs at full strength (translation: Ben under center). A couple observations to support that from my vantage point:

1) Troy was mostly nowhere to be found because they literally went away from him just about every play of the game (except the TD, where he joined the chase late and couldn't get there). I agree he looked a step slower, but ithas been well-documented that they studied film on #43 ALL SUMMER LONG, and definitely seemed to know where he would, and would not, be on any given play.

2) Suggs was coming from everywhere, in a different way than we normally see. I think I saw at least 3 different looks that I don't ever recall seeing involving them trying to (successfully) hide him before the snap. They used Ngata's and his strengths to perfection today.

3)Vonta Leach- Need I say more? I was very concerned when they picked him up, and now we all know exactly why they made sure they got the best fullback in the league to plow a path for Rice. This is the one factor I'm apprehensive about finding a solution for.

Maybe this is just trying to make myself feel better about getting it handed to us today by my most hated rival, but I truly believe the Ratbirds were singularly focused this offseason, while Pittsburgh made sure we could have as close to the same team as was possible coming out of a SB run. there was an obvious difference in "want to" out there today, which really surprised me. I hope it's a wake-up call.
